Naturally Inducing Labor- Any Tips?

So I am officially 2 days over due, and trying every natural way of inducing labor. I have tried spicy food, pineapple, herbal raspberry tea, bouncing on a ball, rolling on a ball, squatting, walking lots, nipple stimulation with a breast pump and applying evening primrose oil directly to the cervix. I am not comfortable with castor oil or blue/black cohosh.

Any tips or suggestions? Anything you've heard of that I haven't tried? I don't want to be medically induced, so any tips would be appreciated. I feel like I am going to be pregnant forever! :(

Sex will definitely help. Semen contains the highest amount of prostaglandins. Prostaglandin helps ripen or soften the cervix, which causes it to dilate. Plus, an orgasm is your uterus having a contraction.. contractions lead to more dilating :) If you do this don't get up right away and elevate your hips so the semen will stay on your cervix. Both nipple stimulation and an orgasm cause the release of the hormone oxytocin which causes contractions. Walking or rolling on a yoga ball helps get the babys head in position also rubbing against the cervix. And most important, RELAX! It will help your body get ready for labor. Try a warm bath in candle light and just breathe. I hope this helps :)

When I was pregnant with my 1st child, I tried everything to induce labor! Nothing worked! Long walks, spicy food & even sex. Nothing made any difference. I even tried the blue cohosh & it didn't do anything & tasted terrible! I finally went into labor & went to the hospital but was sent home - this happened twice. I had enough. I know you said you aren't comfortable with castor oil, but it works!! My OB/GYN said it won't hurt the baby at all! After getting sent home the 2nd time, my hubby stopped off at the store & got some castor oil. I mixed 2 tablespoons with a glass of OJ. Couldn't even taste it. Went to the hospital an hour later & my daughter was born the next morning! There's nothing wrong with taking it except it will make you poop! Hopefully something else will work for you. If not, try it. How ready are you to meet your baby?

My "little" boy didn't want to come out either....i did all the same as you, also sex, and still nothing happened. I was pretty much 100% effaced for weeks and even 1-2 cm dialated for a while. I went 1.5 weeks over before I had to be induced and then later had to have a c-section because my "little" boy was a whopping 10 lbs. 13 oz!

The only thing that I tried that actually started to give me contractions was acupuncture. I went to an acupuncturist and she did her thing and I actually started getting contractions right there on the table. The contractions continued for the rest of the day and night but unfortunately for me they were not strong enough and eventually stopped. But it does work -- unfortunately your body (and baby) have to be ready. Remember that a due date is not an exact science...I was even seeing a fertility doctor and knew the EXACT date I conceived and my due date was June 22nd and my baby did not come out until July 2nd! And I bet if I had waited for him to come out on his own (assuming he could have fit) he probably would have stayed in there another week.

Hang in there!

Ya, nothing works. Your body will go into labour when it's ready to. All of these things are myths!!! I tried everything and nothig worked!!! Good luck

Nothing will work if your body isn't ready. Please don't try the castor oil, it causes horrible diarrhea and whilst it won't hurt your baby it will be terribly unpleasant for you!

The only problem with castor oil is that it is a laxative. I know many people who used it and ended vomitting and having diarrhea their entire labor! Plus it's very dehydrating.

Nothing will make that baby come any sooner, it will come when it's ready. Semen can help thin your cervix but it won't make you dialate or go into active labor unless the baby is ready to come.
