Positive Thoughts & Prayers Please

I need your help please. I am nearly 25 weeks pregnant and up until 2 weeks ago was having a perfectly normal and happy pregnancy. On January 13th, we went in to find out the sex of our baby and were told devastating news. The baby's kidneys have cysts on them and the lungs are not developing properly-furthermore, the baby is running out of amniotic fluid. We were told this is a fatal condition. This is not a genetic disease-we were told it happens randomly to 1 in 10,000. The doctors told me that there is nothing that neither they nor I can do-just pray.

My husband and I have since been for a second opinion and were told that they could not give us a diagnosis until they perform an autopsy. An autopsy on my baby! The doctors have pretty much written off my child who still has a strong heart beat and kicks me every day.

My husband and I are continuing to stay strong and keep the faith. This baby is very much loved and our family is absolutely devastated by the diagnosis. The baby’s heart and brain are strong and I feel the baby kick me every day-we continue to pray for a miracle!
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Thank you and God bless!

Have you read the book "I'll carry you" ? It's available from Focus on the family. http://www.focusonthefamily.com/ I really enjoyed the book and I believe the baby had the same condition yours does. It's a very encouraging book.

*hugs* I pray that God would be very near to you, Traci. The road isn't easy or the sky blue, but God can walk beside you and help you and your hubby work thru this. If it is His will He can perform miracles. It's not easy to let a child go, (I know, I've been there). God bless you. If you want, you can message me. Love and best wishes.

Edited to add-- here is a better website for the book I mentioned. You can listen to them tell their story here as interviewed by Focus on the family. http://www.focusonlinecommunities.com/bl...

Our sweet baby boy, Matthew James, passed away on April 15th. I went into labor on April 12th and after 33 hours of labor, our baby was born on April 13th. He lived for 2 days before going into organ failure. He passed away in my husband's and my arms. The pain of losing him is more than I can bear and I haven't been taking many phone calls, e-mails, or messages because it has been so hard. Thank you for keeping in touch and I am attaching a picture of Matthew so you can see just how precious he was.

Prayers to you and for your unborn baby boy.

You might be able to gather some encouragement from a friend of mine. Her son was given a 10% chance of survival too at the 20 week ultrasound (and he's a happy 2 year old now). Here's a link to their blog: http://thetuleys.blogspot.com. If you click on the right side of the page where it says, "Begin Here" you can read about the things they did while their son was still in the womb to celebrate his life. They had zero expectations that the child would survive, so they tried to do everything while he was still in the womb that a normal child might do outside the womb (ride a motorcycle, go to the beach, serve in a soup kitchen, etc.). They have an incredible journey of faith that I think can encourage and inspire any of us.

Hi all!

So we went for an ultrasound and met with the geneticist today and have a lot of new updates. Baby Snickerdoodle is 4lbs 14oz and right on target for growth. Although it’s hard to get a clear picture because of the no fluid situation-we do know that the baby’s legs are long and cheeks are chubby and that….WE’RE HAVING A BOY!!! The name is to be determined since Jim and I can’t agree on anything at the moment.

So here goes the update:

-the right kidney still has cysts on it, but something happened to the left kidney…they’re not sure if there are cysts or not anymore! It’s hard to tell on the ultrasound, but the doctors and tech could not find the cysts that were there. There is a possibility that they broke up or dissolved! We still won’t know if that kidney will work or not until the baby is delivered, but what everyone agrees on is that SOMETHING has happened to that kidney and it certainly isn’t bad news.

-the chest is still measuring small, but is showing growth throughout all of my ultrasounds. The baby had hiccups the other day, which is a good sign; however, please please please continue praying that the lungs are strong enough to breathe on their own or have enough strength that the doctors can work with them.

-the doctor wants me to go for an amnio infusion to have a fetal lung maturity test done. This will give us a better idea of how the baby’s lungs are working. Part of me wants to do the test-and the other part of me is petrified to find out the results.

-The doctors are pretty sure that I will go into labor early because the baby doesn’t have much room to move; however, the baby does continue to move (which still surprises the doctors) and we know this because we could see the baby moving his hands and feet on the ultrasound.

-Back in January, our baby was given a 10% chance of survival-today the doctor upped it to 50%. I’m still scared to death about the outcome, but as my friend Manda said, “We’re headed in the right direction”.

So thank you all again for all of your thoughts and prayers and please please continue to keep our baby in yours prayers. The further along I get, the scarier/more stressful the situation becomes. Please know that your thoughts and prayers ARE working. The doctor told me that most women miscarry early on with this type of condition, yet I am 34 weeks along and the baby continues to grow. And with news of the left kidney changing-SOMETHING is going on!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you all-I wish there was more I could say or do to show you how much I appreciate your support!

With love,

Traci

Thank you everyone! We had a couple of doctor's appointments this week. The baby is continuing to grow and we received more positive news. The doctors told us to not worry about the kidneys as much as the lungs. The baby's lungs are small and need to get stronger-we still have time so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers! Thank you all!

A friend of mine delivered her baby many weeks early and was told several times that the chances of her daughter surviving were slim to none. They too called on the family of God lifting baby Eleanor up to Him believing that He would and will take care of her. Baby Eleanor is still in the NICU, but is doing well.

God as able to do mighty things! Trust in Him and know that He is God. He has a plan for you and your baby. No matter what happens He is in control and He loves you and your baby, and you are in His hands! May the Lord shower you with blessings!
