Congrats! Since you say you don't exactly eat healthy maybe you should try some alternatives. I'm not a big pill taker myself, and prenatal vitamins seem to make me sick and are hard to swallow so my doctor recommended that I take a gummy vitamin and folic acid supplement instead and that combo seems to be more efficient. Even in the event that you DON'T take any vitamins, healthy babies were born long before prenatal vitamins came along, your baby will get the nutrients it needs regardless honestly, you'll be the one going without. Best of luck!

I'm not an expert but here are my thoughts...

I am not a pill popper either and am not taking prenatal vitamins. I eat a very healthy diet with lots of home cooking, organic/free-range foods, and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and green leafy vegetables every day.

I took Folic acid while trying to get pregnant and for the first 6 weeks. The baby's spine fuses together in the 5th week and folic acid helps ensure the spine fuses together. This is what made sense to me. I am no longer taking folic acid.

I have been taking iron supplements because I know my diet does not have enough iron in it. I talked to my pharmacist about it and take a supplement every 2 weeks or so. I can feel when I need more iron because the bags under my eyes get darker, I get constipated, I have less energy.

Try to eat as healthy as you can and don't worry about not taking them for a few weeks. It's your choice as to whether to take them or not. Women have had healthy babies without taking them for thousands of years. Either way I wish you a very healthy pregnancy and baby. Do not let anyone guilt or pressure you to do what they want - this is your baby and your choice!
