Ok, my little Cyle is one now. I know not all kids start doing things at the same age, but he will not walk. He flat out refuses. Everytime I try to make him stand up without holding on to something he screams and sits down. He has walking toys and will walk with them. He will even push the dining room chairs around, but he won't do it himself. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas to get him moving. Thanks a bunch!

my little girl had only just started to walk on her own but only at home. she was the same. i no this sounds crule but we made her walk to food.lol i would sit at one end of the room and daddy would sit at the other with some chocolate buttons i would stand her up and tell her if she walked to daddy she could have one it worked a treat we did this a couple of times then just left her to play and after a couple of weeks her confidence grew now shes trying to run.

It's totally normal for kids to wait several months past their birthday to try out walking. No biggie. If you want to encourage it, you can try to have him around other kids his age who are walking (that sometimes gets them motivated). Letting him push chairs around is great, and if he'll walk while holding into your hands that's great, too. But there's not really any need to push it, he'll walk when he's ready.

my daughter just turned one she is the same way. she crawled early at 7 months and pulled up right at 8 months and i really expected her to start walking very soon after that..... she will now let go of things and free stand, sometimes but it all has to be her idea. she gets onto toys and off and can even crawl onto an ottoman we have but will not walk i know how you feel !

I would let baby go at his/her own pace. My daughter is now walking, but she just started walking on her own.. I didn't do anything besides a walker and some walking toys to get her to start walking. On the other hand my daughter's friend (who also just turned a year) .. is on a walking protest! She does not want to walk and just isn't interested.. when she is ready she will walk.

My boy will walk a  few wobbly steps, but still crawls to get places. My girl won't walk independently at all, but she loooes standing up by herself (and gets praised everytime she does). Babies dont' neccessarily walk at exactly 1 year, and I am not worried.

My 1 year old isnt walking either. She will walk around the furniture, walk holding your hands and use her push along toys, but when it comes to trying to get her to walk unaided, she just sits down. It doesnt worry me as I can see she is capable of walking when she is ready. I would suggest not trying to make him stand alone if it upsets him as they could hold him back. He needs to want to do it and enjoy it. Try walking lots holding on to his hands and when his confidence grows, gradually go to holding onto just one hand. Hopefully, once he learns how easy and fun it is, he will be more willing to start standing on his own and then take his first few steps.

My one year old isn't walking either. He was a late crawler too. I'm just letting him adjust to new things at his own pace, but I hope he walks by early May as he's supposed to start some part time day care and needs to be walking. Mine won't push the "walking" toys around. He prefers to crawl.
