More questions regarding whole milk. Can you give a 1 year old 2% milk? How much milk is a 1 year old allowed to drink. We go to the doc's for her 1 year check up on Friday, but i thought i would see what all the mommys had to say. Thanks.

Ditto on the whole milk, and I also wanted to add that I've read in numerous places that if you only buy a few organic items, whole milk is one to buy organic for sure!  The hormones they give the cows bind themselves to the fat cells in the milk, so when you're giving whole fat milk, your little one will have all those hormones as well.  I buy plain ol' skim for the rest of my family, but from 1-2, my little guy will drink ORGANIC whole milk.

Oh, I just noticed also that you asked how much per day.  From what i've read they have said in the neighbor hood of 16-24oz/day.  Remember too that milk is binding, so you may need to work in a few more fruits/veggies to help compensate!

I think that the only time that I've heard of reduced fat milk being given to a baby is when there is extreme heart disease in the family.  Other than that, they say you should give whole milk until they're 2 and then you can switch to 2% at that point if you want.

My husband is enjoying having whole mile in the fridge for his coffee!

There are a lot of yoghurts out there made with whole milk but the best thing to give them is fromage frais due to the high calcium content. Muller Little Stars is good as they have less colourings than others and less additives, although petit filous are great as they do some that have plain yoghurt on top with a little bit of fruit sauce at the bottom, my 2year old loves them still. Also, fromage frais is better if you are still feeding your child as whole milk yoghurts tend to be quite runny so it can get very messy. Hope this heps.

Most Doc's recommend whole milk. I usually gave mine milk in the morning and with dinner & sometimes before bed. It's not like formula that you have to make sure how many ounces the baby needs...now that they are older & eating everything off the table they are getting what they need.

Mine recommended Whole milk because our babies need that fat in their diet, and to try to give the yogurt also made with Whole milk.

My pediatrician recommended either whole milk or 2% milk but not fat free milk. They say a baby still needs the fat in the milk. I am currently giving my daughter (11months)whole milk mixed with her formula since they say to slowly introduce milk to babies, make sure no allergies and such. My ped also said 3-4 bottles of milk a day is fine (8oz),
