Hi moms,

During my pregnancy I've put on 57 lbs (26 kg) and now, 5 months after I gave birth I've only lost 31 lbs (14 kg). I haven't been dieting nor exercising and my weight's been like this for the past 3 months. I don't know if it's normal or not but I would have thought that sleepless nights and breastfeeding would make it really easy getting rid of the extra pounds.

How is it for you? Did you put on a lot of weight? Did you manage to get rid of it yet?

I gained 40ish lbs and just about 6 months later i've lost 35 lbs but i think most of it was water weight. i have nto been working out or dieting either. And my son is bottle fed. All I have been doing is watching what I am eating.

i have the same problem. i talked with my family doctor about it and he said weight loss pills won't work. he also said to try walking two to three miles a day at a pace that makes you break a sweat. he said not to worry about losing a signifigant amount right away but try to lose two to three ounds every three weeks to a month because the more you keep your weight loss in moderation the easier it is to keep it off. i have been losing two to three pounds a month and my clothes are startung to get bigger it just sucks because of how much time it is taking to do it. i just think about what i will look like in a year from now if i keep up losing in moderation and it makes me feel better about still having the extra now.

I put on at least as much weight as you did with my last Pregancy. My son is now 9 months old and I have lost over 50 pounds. I am also a nursing mom. I have lost the weight using Weight Watchers. The program is a amazing and has a special plan for nursing Moms. Some insureance companies will even pay for it. I highly recommend going to the meetings and not just doing the online stuff. I wish you luck in your weight lose journey!

i put on a lot of weight over the last 3 pernancies (1st one i lost 95% in 6 months but i was a dancer then ) over the last 9 years i have tried meds to help lose the baby weight but after an injury to my back and putting on more then i have ever weighed i cant exercise much (cant walk for more then 5 mins without extreme pain)but i have now lost over 30kg in 16 months by eating small meals and eating something every 2 -3 hours when awake and i used to eat a snack size hight protein low carb bar a day i cut most bad fats out, most carbs, wholemeal bread, raw sugar instead of white, olive oil for cooking, lots of vegies, sweet potato instead of potato's and most of all i did things to make me happy a happy person can lose weight easier i still had junk food at times and once in a while i binged on junk for a birthday party or xmas ect it would have lost my weight quicker if i was able to walk around the block every day, just make sure if you are breast feeding keep up eating enough to satisfy your hunger just dont over eat and take vitamins just dont lose it to fast its not good be happy just think the extra weight is from a gift you carried be happy with who you are :)

I gained almost 50 lbs, and I had my baby at 34 weeks, I've already lost 25 lbs. Its takes time and diet is important as well. My last baby I went to my pre-pregnancy weight.

I put on 30 pounds with my baby girl. I have been breastfeeding for 8 months and I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I took up running on my treadmill when she was napping. Now I can run 5 miles. The endorphins are good too, for us stay-at-homers. I found that I really started dropping the pounds when I watched what I ate. Started eating more vegetables. And stopped overeating at night.

I didnt have that problem, I dropped 20 right after I had mine. Like, before I even left the hospital. Dont skip a meal, I promise it doesnt help...your body creates more fat to replace what it has to eat off of to survive. And sleepless nights dont help either. Your body heals faster and your metabolism runs faster when your sleeping. No matter how active you are. Eating and sleeping will help you a lot.

I gained 35lbs. during my third pregnancy and it's been six months since my daughter was born. I'm already back to my pre-pregnancy weight and all I can say is I have a great treadmill! I run/walk for 25 to 40 minutes a few times a week. I alway's make sure to get on right after I nurse so I'm not bouncing everywhere, I also wear 3 sports bras for support. I feel energized afterwards and feel like it helps me to be a better mom!

I gained 50 pounds too, but now I still have 20 to go. Most weight got lost when my baby was born, (he was 10.2 oz), plus a lot of water. I'm just trying to get into the walking business with him. I'm so happy that I found this conversation, because I started to worry that I never loose it. You guys give me hope. Thank you. I will post if I found any exercise what works, besides wait, and walk.

I know how you feel , before I got pregnant my original weight was 145 and I am only 5'1 so I am short. But after I became pregnant I lost a lot of weight from throwing up for 3 and half months then I was at 140!! and I thaught It was great. I didn't actually start gaining the weight until I was around 5-6 months pregnant.. Then just before my due date(my son came 3 weeks early) I weighed 160 !!!! OMGosh... then I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. And Poof like that I was back to 140... but my tummy still looks like I am about 4 months pregs. And I have been excersing to an extent .. and with like no time to like never eat you'd think the weight would drop off my tummy and all the running around and picking my son up on and off all DAY!! you;d think it would go away but no . And I am still at around 142 still !!! oh and after I gave birth my weight was 138!!.. and now I am back to 142.. So i guess it just takes time..

I gained eighteen pounds total during pregnancy and have lost more than that (I don't regularly weigh myself or even own a scale, so I don't know exactly how much.). I also eat pretty healthy and exercise by carrying my big boy all over the place.

I put on 61 pounds with my daughter and she is my 2nd child. I breastfeed, so that helps to take a lot of the weight off....I also walk 6 days/week and just recently started strength-training again. I still have 12 pounds to lost. With my first child, I gained 39 pounds, and lost all 39 pounds by the time he was 6 months old. I was also walking quite a bit. Good luck...just takes time.

I put on about 40 lbs during my pregnancy. I lost 20 of it within a couple of months without trying. Then I began exercising and trying to lose weight and nothing happened at all. I haven't dropped a single pound since the initial 20. Then I went to my doctor for a checkup and she checked my thyroid. Turns out that I have a thyroid problem and that is the main reason I'm not able to lose any weight. SO...if you begin exercising and still don't lose any weight, talk to your doctor. But i wouldn't expect to lose any without at least increasing your physical activity!

I put on 50lbs with my pregnancy (it was a HUGE deal considering I was only 105lbs to begin)! I managed to loose 25lbs the day I had her & am now at 103lbs! How on Earth I did it I will never know since I did not breastfeed or exercise at all! BUT I have been told & read many times that the sleepless nights will add greatly to your difficulty to loose the weight. You need to some how manage to get your complete 8hours of sleep a day (all night if possible or when baby sleeps). Also try not to eat super late in the evenings like after baby falls asleep... that is also a big factor!

I was 108 before I got preggo and right before I had my son on Feb 18th, I was 133lbs. Right after I had him I was 118 and I'm still the same weight today. I haven't done anything to work it off so I suppose I can't expect much, but I don't have time to work out and get rid of it. I still don't like the way I look though.

i want to loose weight so i can keep up with my 2 year old boy (someone put energizer batteries in him!) but as always after having a baby you need to watch out for your pelvic floor if you don't want to be one of those girls who wets herself when she laughs! ;o) So far i have discovered if you do ALL the wiggles actions with your older children you might be able to have some fun with your kids as well as use up some of your exercise time!! cause those fellas have some energy!

I gained 25kgs (about 55 pounds) prior to getting pregnant, (weight gained due to taking various drugs to help me get pregnant- we had a really tough time conceiving due to my PCOS), but not much while pregnant (11kgs/25Lbs-and that went before I got home from hospital). Now 6 months after having my miracle baby daughter Harriet, it still hasn't really moved much but neither have I ! :) I have taken up yoga again and this is getting me motivated and I will add in going for a walk every day too and gradually lose the weight.

Also thinking of the amazing thing our bodies have just done- making a human, go a bit easy on ourselves. Once our babies start to get a bit more active then we will get a bit more active keeping up. So my suggestion is to take it easy and eat well and move a bit more and be kind to yourself. (after all the pressure to be back to pre baby bodies is unrealistic; it ain't ever going back to where it started- my pre baby body was far from perfect anyway!) :) Good luck.

I gained 32 pounds during my pregnancy and have ~8-10 pounds to lose but it's holding firm. Unfortunately, when I found out I was pregnant I had just started a plan to lose ~20lbs. The plan was immediately canceled by my husband and since I had very strong food adversions, we mostly focused on just making sure I would actually eat at all and keep it.

I've been breastfeeding and mostly just feel tired all of the time. I'm back to watching what I eat but I can't cut back too much since my milk supply suffers. My cousin who looks amazing and has had 6 kids, swears to me that my state is perfectly normal and to give it a year. Just try to increase your exercise slowly (I've started nightly situps and stairs at work) and sleep as much as possible. I felt like I was way behind until I read these posts. Thanks everyone!

I'm new and I've read several posts. I stopped myself at the post where it states you have to do stuff to try to lose weight. That may very well be true, but it doesn't work for everyone. I feel bad to say I only gained 41-42 pounds during each of my pregnancies(2 total) and I NEVER did anything. I ate very poorly after my first and lost all but 4 pounds before my oldest was 3 months old. I did quite similar after my youngest and weigh less than when I got pregnant. I know, sounds depressing. The key things they told me where I live is to consider genetic histories of mothers in my family and to consider the amount of sugar and sodium in my diet. I use way more sugar than any person should but I cut back on my sodium(salt)... Most weight that people have found very difficult to lose is actually water wight and salt helps add to that. Exercise doesn't work for everyone so it's hard to pin all your hopes on that. I'm actually upset that I'm slender. I see mothers as being, in no other words coming to mind, chubby and definately beautiful. Motherhood should be embraced as beautiful regardless of weight. Stress over weight can help keep it on. Thats the biggest weight gain factor when puberty hits so the hormone fluxuation after birth can cause the same effect especially when you factor in a non-sleeping dependent little person. Don't worry... it wil all happen in due time and just enjoy your precious little gift!

ack hate trying to lose the extra weight I still feel like my ass is the same size now as when I was preggo. Of course it isn't but I am still no where near pre-preggo weight. And I walk as often as the weather will permit and muck out a LOT of horse stall every morning. My hubby just keeps reminding me that it may take the full year to start getting my body to even resemble it's old self, but it will probably NEVER be the same thanks to all the changes our beautiful babies have made our bodies go through. UGH

I'm having the toughest time losing the last ten pounds. I watch what I eat and becoming more active. It's the hormones, but that doesn't make me feel better!

Same problem. I gained 40. I am now about 10 pounds away from pre pregnancy weight, but I notice that when I do not eat as much, my milk supply goes down, so I hate dieting for her sake!

I just bought a Wii Fit and I love it. I can work out or do little things in spurts whenever I have a free minute and before I know it I have done 30min total throughout the day. I think it helps keep me active, which is a good thing because I have a major chocolate addiction. I have also returned to my prebaby weight, but my body is fatter and not as much muscle mass. I want to regain my muscle strength, which is why I bought the wii.

I have lost 56lbs since having my son. You can't loose the weight if you don't do any thing about it. I exercise on a regular basis and eat healthy. Not dieting, just eating heathlier. I had gestional diabetes while pregnant and had no choice but to eat heathy. Once I changed my eating, everything else just fell in to place. I want to be more active, I statred loosing weight, and just hear from my dr. a week ago that my diabetes are GONE :)

Thank you for the replies, I see so many moms looking good that I thought there might be someting wrong with me.

I try to go for a walk with the buggy every day and I've just started doing some sit-ups. I start work in a month and I will need to buy a couple of new suits to fit me, but hopefully, as you said, it will come off in time.

Good luck to all of you!

I put on 2 and abit stone and none of it came off, infact it went up slightly! I think its mostly because I was eating what I could when I could find the time to get it. That ended up being not exactly healthly! You have already lost over half of it which is pretty good going, after all it took nine months to put on, so it will take at least that to fall off! xx
