He seemed to need more bottles and was waking in the night for a feed so i tried him with pureed apple and pear and a bit of baby rice during the day,now he doesn't seem interested in spoonfeeding, he seals his lips and turns his head when he sees the spoon coming! help?

Gosh, I would say maybe just be patient and give him a day or two. Maybe he is starting to teeth? I know my daughter doesn't eat good when her mouth is sore. Is long as he is still drinking the milk he should be ok. I'm with you though, I started my daughter on solid veggies when she was 3 months old. She is perfectly healthy and happy. If he starts not wanting to eat anything, I'd bring him into the doc office. But, patients is the best thing!

I agree with Corrina, I did the same thing with my son at 2 months, but stayed with just veggies and cereals until about 5 months. He is now 12 years old 5'2 and 105lbs. I started my daughter at 12 weeks on food and she is thriving and happy at 16 weeks. Just let your child tell you when their ready and don't let what other people are doing or are not doing affect you.

my daughters doc said to try and not feed them solids until they were like 6 months or so.. He said the sooner you introduce them to solids it can highten there risk of childhood obesity. I would ask your doc and see what he/she says.

i wouldn't force him to eat solids, when he is ready he will be more willing to eat solids. just give him a few more months

my little boy is 19 weeks now and has been eating for just over a week. he's not to keen on savoury food yet though, but he loves hi fruit ones! will gladly eat a whole jar in one sitting. lol my 2 year old was the same though so i'm not worried, infact i'm quite glad as my two year old prefers fruit and youghurts to chocolate and crisps! so i can't complain. lol

if they wake up at night for food . feed them. they need the nutrients in the formula for brain development. cereal is just empty calories. there body does not use any nutrients in the cereal until they are 6 months old.

My little guy has been eating food since he was 2 months old, he was CONSTANTLY screaming and eating so I gave him some rice cereal (if you are giving them things other then that you need to wait AT LEAST 2 days before trying something new i.e. pears for 2 days then pears and apples for two days etc.) He eats every day regularly now but if they refuse it, it may be because they are sick and tired of the same thing all the time (i.e. time to try a new fruit or veggie) or that they simply don't like how it makes their stomach feel. If you give an infant under 6 months food its very hard on their stomachs and can cause constipation and bloating, but if they like it and are good to go then go for it. just don't push it and let the baby decide what he wants. mine is almost 4 months now sleeps 14 hours straight is trying to walk and is eating well, he's also 30 inches tall and 19 pounds!

He could just be having a growth spurt. My LO wakes at night for extra feeds when she's having a growth spurt.
The World Health Organisation recommends not introducing solids til 6months, they say there's no harm, but no benefit. They start to lose the gag reflex a bit by 6 months as well, which makes introduction of solids easier. Besides, their first foods are the sorts of things we would eat if we were on a diet - they don't have the nutrients that growing babies need.
Check out Baby Led Weaning - there's a fair bit of info online about it.

I put a tiny amount of rice cereal in her night bottle when she seems to be going through a growth spurt and she isn't content with just milk (just be careful not to do too much as you don't want to make them constapated) You can buy Y nipples that allow for a bit of a thicker flow. As for other food, baby is still quite little, I personally wouldn't recommend starting on regular foods yet.

I really wouldn't worry, every baby is different. My 17 week old baby drinks about 8 bottles too. At night he has two Aptamil Baby Rice bottles to fill him up more and to try and get him to sleep through the night.

The way to tell is how he is going up the growth chart, if he is healthy and not too under or overweight, you have nothing to worry about. =)

i started to give my 15 week old baby farex rice cereal about 2 weeks ago, n he is to not that keen on eating it and just keeps on pushing his tounge to push it out. so i am just going to wait, he is only having 4 bottles at 220 - 270ml a bottle.

like Melanie said, he's very young. There's no need to rush. Babies get everything they need from milk for the first year, so starting food isn't really something to get worried about :)
relax, he'll eat when he decides he wants to.

Well he is only 15 weeks old, and they recommend waiting until 6 months, so dont stress, just keep giving him his bottles and try food another time.
