jackson's been supporting his own weight since he was like a week old, he's now takin steps with support and help with balance and he's only 4 months. he loves his johnny jumper too. his doctor said it was fine and that whole thing about it making them bow-legged is just an old wives tale. all babies are born bow-legged and it typically goes away.

HI, my son does that. its perfectly fine. he has been standing since only a few weeks old. the slightly bent legs will correct itself, as its still from birth and Im sure you didnt have room for her legs to streach out. lol. they will straighten out as time goes by, get her to stand as much as possible it will strengthen her little legs, but dont forget tummytime so her can get her arms a work out too.

My baby is 5 months old and he loves to try standing he laughs he thinks it's the funniest thing I support him and if that's what my son wants to learn and try more that's OK as long as I support his little back:))

My daughter has enjoyed trying to (and actually doing it) standing since she was just a few days old. I've read that the bend in the legs is normal and they should straighten out as time goes on. It's when it doesn't go away - say by age two - that you should see your doctor. My oldest daughter had the "bow legged" thing when she was young and starting to stand/walk, but is fine now. As always, consult your doctor if you're concerned.

all three of my kids did this, and my oldest two were early walkers, and now, at 3 yrs and 21 months, have never had any problems with their legs. My youngest is 15 months old, too, and isn't happy unless she's standing! Baby's legs are bent because of their position in the womb, not because of undue pressure from standing. In fact, if her legs WERE'NT slightly bent, that could raise concern of muscle or joint issues. The best advice I've ever gotten as a parent is to follow your baby's cues. If she's a stander, let her stand! If she prefers to view the world from a blanket on the floor, don't push the issue.

my little guys has been trying to stand since birth too. we just make sure to hold onto him really well. now that he is 5 months he has been pushing off things more and wanting to stand even more. we put him in a johnny jummper and he loves it. when we hold him he tries to jump the whole time so this way i don't have to let my arms get tired.

I was definitely always told NOT to let them do it or they would get bow legged, BUT, my little man has been trying since he was born, i'm not going to stop him because it makes him happy.

i think thats normal...my baby also does the same thing and according to her doctor its normal as long as you support her body weight..its like exercising her joints and preparing for standing position. It also shows that the baby has strong bones and a good sign that for an advance learning.

This is a reflex that all babies have, they're practicing to stand and walk later on. My son is 4 months old and he's always been trying to walk, and now we walk on the floor while I hold his arms. He loves it and it's good practice. Let her stand and walk as much as she wants, it's a good sign! :)

my daughter is the same, and has been trying to stand since a few weeks old. She wants to do it all the time now ( or spend time sitting up) and laughs when she does. She has acid reflux as well and i think this position is comfortable. she has a bow in her legs too but im told that it is normal, and nothing was mentioned at her 3 month check up.

All babies start to "try out their legs" around this time. some sooner, some later. All four of my children started doing this around 2 months old. My youngest is now 17 weeks old and loves her Johnny Jump Up. As far as the curve in her legs, I am sure that is normal too.

my boy does this too. he's 15 weeks now and has been holding his weight since a couple of weeks old. babies being bow-legged is completely normal and my midwife said it was fine to let him stand. he's in a jolly jumper now and has been for about a month and loves it :)

Mine too -- I'm just about to buy a jolly jumper as we had one for our first but it was borrowed from my brother and he needs it now for his second. My 15-wk-old Abigail loves standing and giggles when we hold her standing. I think she'll love jumping. I don't think it's too early. We had our first daughter in a jolly jumper about this age too, but not for too long till they get used to it.

my daughter was pushing up since she was born, MD says it won't hurt her, and all baby legs are bent a little. Enjoy watching her play!

My almost 4 month old has been trying to test out her leg muscles since she was like 2 months old. All she wants to do is stand!! She has acid reflux so I think she likes that gravity helps her out ;) I also don't think anything is wrong but mama intuition is always best listened to so do talk to you doc about it.

My daughter loves standing up and she loves her jump a roo. SHe is much happier standing with my support than sitting or laying. I let her stand as much as she wants and she sits down when she is tired. I have never heard that is bad for babies to stand if they want to. I think it just helps strengthen their muscles.

My little one has been doing it since he was a month old. He loves to stand up. I know he will probably be bowlegged regardless because his father is but otherwise he has no problems with his legs. I just support most of his weight and let him have fun.

My son loved standing up from a young age so from 7weeks old he has been using a jolly jumper and LOVES it! My plunket nurse said its fine, but no more than 10min a day as all the jumping involves a bit of time on tiptoes which can stretch ligaments that result in them walking on tiptoes...

They are just doing it to strengthen their muscles, it's a reflex, my daughter does it all the time. About the bendiness, the lower legs are bowed slightly for quite a while actually, my 18 month old still has some bend to her legs, it straightens out completely around 3 years. It's hard to say if it's normal or not, but if it's not your doctor would mention it. As long as it doens't prevent her from walking when she's at that age, it's fine. It's from being jammed inside us for 9 months, they grow that way.

My daughter does the exact same thing! I would assume that it is normal! Our babies are just a few months ahead of the game!!That's totally a good thing!

Hi Eman, I don't think you've done anything - as long as you support their weight there's nothing wrong with little babies trying their feet out. Some babies don't want to do it yet and just let their legs dangle, but some seem ready to go! Regarding the bendiness I'd imagine it's hard to say if that's an issue till they're a bit older / standing, but why not ask the doc about it next time you go just to put your mind at rest?
