Do any of you give your kids water to drink daily? I gave my kids a water even as infants, just a teaspoon, but children thirst for water it also helps with bowel movements.

what soy formula is he on? Some soy formulas have the palm olein oil that I have read can cause constipation in babies. My BF kids both had issues with constipation on the good start soy. She would have to give them water intermittently to help them poop. I have my daughter on the similac soy (which does not have the palm olein) and do not have any issues at all. But if he had it before the switch, it may still not help. My mom told me molasses or dark karo syrup works great, she said dip a spoon in it and then stir the spoon in the bottle until it dissolves. She had to use it on my my BF's little boy when he was a baby. His poops would be so hard it was like he was laying an egg! Her daughter just had the same problem the other day and she had to use the Vaseline to help her get it out.

Hi jennifer, sounds like he is constipated??? if he is, instead of changing formulas I would give him 30 mls or so, of cooled boiled water (try every other feed giving him the water) this will help him soften his poo. If he doesnt like drinking the water try adding less formula or more water to the bottle. Hope it helps.

well things like this tends to happen more in babies that are fed formula, my son also had the same problem but it passed after a day or so, it usually results in them getting something in their system that they just can't quite digest yet, my son uses similac with iron and that seemed to help but you could also try breast milk if you can

My daughter was pooping hard pebbles too when she was less than 2 months old, so I called my friend, her baby has had constipation since she was a month old, while being breastfed, so it does happen to boobie babies too. She said her pediatrician told her to give prune or plum juice, diluted. 1oz of prune juice, 1 oz of water. Let him drink half of it and wait a couple hours to see. It worked for us within an hour, but can take several if the poop is hard. I wouldnt do apple juice, its binding, so I dont know why they told you apple. I know pear juice works as well, but prune has never let us down.

oh yeah, and we made the switch from enfamil premium to the gentle formula and havent had hard poops since.

My daughter is 8 weeks old and she has had hard poop in the past week I actually made a 2oz bottle of prune juice and water. 1oz of the prune juice and 1oz of the water and she eanded up going an hour later and it was mushy ( I was so relieved) and ever since then its been fine. I guess it cleared out her system.

We had the same problem. Liam has colic and reflux, and after alot of trial and error, we finally have the bottle combination and formulas down pat (the dr has him on two different formulas now). However the thick formula was making him constipated, so we put 3mls of gripe water in to his thick bottles and havent had a problem since.

My son has the same problem and dr told us try prune jiuce, mikey wouldn't drink it. So I asked other moms and they all told me put 1/2 teaspoon of Karo in his bottles. So I asked dr and he said to try it although its not pasterized or try to make a simple syrup at home (boil 2 cups water and 1 cup sugar until disolved) and add half an ounce of simple syrup to his bottles. Seems to help a little. If not i was told to try suppositories, which I only do when he screams when he farts... hope I helped some

Hey Jennifer, you can put vaseline on his butt or you can get some warm water and squirt a little in his butt and that will loosen his stool.
