Help! Why won't my son won't take a bottle!?

I've been breast feeding my son for two and a half months but i need to go back to work. I've been trying to bottle feed him but he just won't take to it. I figured he would take the bottle if he got hungry enough, but today he went 5 hours without eating before i finally came home and nursed him! Any suggestions? I don't know what to do.

The same thing happened with my son. I had to push back when I went back to work (I'm a teacher). It's summer now and he's 5 months and still isn't taking a bottle. Are you trying pumped breast milk or formula? He may not like the taste of formula if you are trying to switch to that and the bottle. If so, I'd try to bottle first with expressed breast milk, then go to the formula. I was trying to use expressed breast milk. Suggestions that people gave us were to try a variety of nipples and bottles, make sure you aren't in the room/giving the bottle (baby will hold out for the boob), and to have an article of clothing the smells like you, with the person that is trying to give baby the bottle. Try when he is hungry, but not overly hungry to the point of frustration. If desperate, (depending on who is watching baby), they could spoon feed the milk to the baby so you don't have to leave work--but make sure to keep trying with the bottle everyday! Obviously, I'm no expert since it didn't work for us, but good luck! If baby holds out as long as my son, we're going to introduce a sippy cup with breast milk in it around 6/7 months. Good luck!
