Has anyone tried the gluten free diet to help with seizures? I read in an article that the gluten free diet has helped with kids who have autism, seizure disorders and metabolism issues. Just wondering is anyone has tried it and if there was any success.

I started john on a gluten free diet (not strict though since there are so many people involved in his care at one time). The diet started October 09, he went 6 months without a seizure. He recently had a seizure (90minutes long) this past month. I don't know if the diet helped keep the seizure at bay or the addition of a new seizure med. They both were started last October.

Hi Barbara, I'm new to the site. Would just like to share that I took my son to the Naturopath at the end of September. He was tested for food sensitivities and the diet he is on is gluten free, but he is also restricted from eating many other foods. We follow it exactly. He had no large seizures since then and very little myoclonic activity. Just after Christmas he had some fish oil and soya sauce in a meal and had a tonic seizure at 5:00 AM. We didn't try re introducing anything else after that and he was seizure free (except little myoclonic ones he gets here and there) till Feb. 1. It has been really bad since then. Every spring he gets really bad. We had an early spring this year in BC Canada. I am taking him for pollen allergy testing on Monday. I'll try to let you know if that makes a difference when treated by the Naturopath. I do know that the diet made my son much healthier. He absorbs more vitamins and minerals and he doesn't have a 3 hour nap every day. He is able to learn and he doesn't walk around like a zombie. All the meds he is on are very bad for him. So yes..I can't say enough good things about a diet like that or the supplements that a Naturopath would give.
