My husband and I have been foster parents for 5 years now. We have had MANY wonderful kids in and out of our home. However, we were blessed to adopt two beautiful children. We have had them both since birth. So needless to say we have not had many problems. But I have talked with several adoptive parents that need help! We need a support group for Post-adoption. Does anyone agree? Could we start a support group?

I adopted my son here in California through DCSF. They do have post adoption services up until the child is 18 for the parent(s). I am a single mom =) and now go to monthly support groups. They also offered me weekly one on one sessions and they also can make monthly home visits if you are interested. They don't push for this option when going through the required steps to adopt. I didn't even know about it until I pushed after my sons adoption was finalized, which was when he was 1 yr. old. Sometimes they have the servces but you have to dig a little because unfortunately they DO NOT want to have to pay for it. It is covered however within the adoption process =).

we have not adopted yet. i think that there is probably a huge need though. even if the first few years go well you can have problems a few years later. genetics and mental health can have a lot to do with things. i have heard of many adoptive parents having trouble with attachment disorders.
