When my son was 3 years old he was in the 90% for height and weight but that is when he stop growing. I have spent the last 7 years trying to get a doctor to look at him but they all tell me he is fine and he will grow. He looks like one of the children on tv, so skinny. His sister is 7 and weighs 10 pounds more, so I know it is not genetics. My son needs help but I do not know what to do.

My son is 10 years old and only weighs 40 pounds. He eats all the time. He was dianosed with a growth hormone deficiency about a year ago. They can give daily shots to help. I decided against the shots because the doctor said he would only grow 6 inches and when my son having down syndrome I don't feel it will affect his quality of life.

Jennifer, is he an ok eater? If not, I would make an appt for a GI dr, if he does eat well and is not growing make an appt for an endocrinologist to check him. They can check his growth hormone levels.

Do you need referrals from your pedi? If so, insist that you're referred and if you don't need a referral call a close children's hospital for specialist suggestions.

I know it can be hard to be 'demanding' but it's best for him and for your peace of mind.
