i love my sister-in-laws idea on christmas eve which im going to adopt next year. after dinner they go for a drive to see the christmas lights and when they get back the children find mrs claus has given them a present on their beds with a note. the present is a new pair of p.js and the note is letting them know its time to go to bed cause santa is on his way. she never has a problem with the kids wanting to quickly put on their new p.js and try and get to sleep.

We always did our Bible Treasure Hunt on Christmas Eve and the kids loved it! At the end of the hunt, their "treasure" was a present they hadn't seen before (it was never put under the tree). It was always one of the highlights of their Christmas and some of their favorite memories now:)

My family and I have been making tamales every Christmas for the past decade. I can't wait to have my daughter try them for the first time this Christmas since she was only 7 months old last Christmas.

We do elf on the shelf--it's a book and elf supposedly the elf watches our toddler to see if he's naughty or nice and reports to Santa each night for the month of December. Then he diapers on Christmas eve until next year. My three jumps out of bed to look for the elf each day

We always have tamales for Xmas, but it's not always on Xmas Eve, since we celebrate Xmas with two families, and we have the tamales with my mom's family, who are Mexican-American. We usually are at my husband's parents' home on Xmas Eve, and they do turkey. My nephews spend the night, so they can wake up early the next day to see what Santa left them. The tradition is that Santa presents are not wrapped, so when the kids get in there early, they have something they're allowed to play with (quietly) until the adults wake up. My MIL made stockings for the kids with their names on them.

I'm glad to hear that someone else has a traditional meal on Christmas Eve! We started our tradition of having Lasagna (homemade by my dad) when my oldest (18 this year) was born. We look forward to it every year. Then, following our dinner, we each open up one present. We all know what that present will be already. We buy matching (to the best of our ability) pj's for each member of the family. The guys match and the girls match. Then we all put on our pj's and watch some kind of movie, usually It's a Wonderful Life. Last year we did a white elephant gift exchange with just the adults. That was fun too!
