We put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving and then watch The 80's Santa Clause the movie. It truly gets you into the spirit!

Well times has been hard for us, and we live in a small apartment. So instead of a traditional tree we cut out the hand prints of our family members and decorated a paper tree. We pinned it up with tacks and hung our ornaments on them. The kids absolutely loved it. (I have a picture of it on my Facebook profile.). Other than crafts, we love to tour the neighborhood with lights, we let our oldest son pick out a toy for toys for tots or in better years we have been a secret santa to a family in need.

I am starting a new tradition with my two year old son. I am going to save his favorite toy for that year and make it an ornament.

Second tradition I am starting is with my tablecloth. I am got fabric paint and had him put his handprint on it. Our family with fabric pens are going to write what they have accomplished that year. I plan to bring it out every year and as my son grows he can draw then write something himself.

we buy a new and special decoration for our tree every year and write the year on it.

we also have an advent calender to count down to christmas day, but its not a chocolate one, its a wooden one with small wooden toys to hang around the wooden pretend fireplace.

also, on my birthday which is 19th december, my son (4 yrs old) and i bake cookies and watch the christmas carols on the tv.

christmas is about being together, so i am sure your kids will remember that.

best wishes to you,

karina, australia.

Here are a couple of traditions we do every year:

- cutting down our christmas tree

- picking up a new decorations for our tree

- baking gingerbread cooklies and shortbread cookies

Pick a couple small easy traditions and carry them on with your family, these little things are something your kids and even yourself will remember forever.
