Do you homeschool over the summer?

We do kind of. It's more like, field trips and exploring whatever my boys want to explore. Fo example, they may want to check out trucks, so we do a mini unit study, get a book from the library, do a lapbook, check out a museum, that sort of thing.

We homeschool during the summer...but it is more for elective classes.

We do cooking, book reading, that kind of thing. If the kids have a special subject they are interested in it may be completed through the summer months.

So we may study rocks (geology), the Titanic (specialized history), recipes from a certain country (home economics). The kids also have a summer reading list. We also do field trips. We went to the fire station to cover safety. The kids are involved in 4-H, which also qualifies for school.

To Cindel,

I really like the idea of taking a Literary Summer! Its light & fun and yet productive.

I can see running with this theme, even spinning off some fun arts/music/cooking activity time to go with the theme of the stories!

I was homeschooled all 12 grades, I plan on homeschooling my children (the one we have currently and the others that we are planning to have, hopefully soon).
We did school through out the summer which included...
reading classics, it was different for my brother and me, I loved reading so mom had me read a book she chose then a book I chose all summer; my brother was different, he wasn't really into books so mom had him read so many chapters a week. He could read them all at once or spread them throughout the week.
We did math monday-friday year round (except Thanksgiving and Christmas if Christmas landed on a weekday then we usually did math on Saturday to make up).
And Latin year round during highschool. We sometimes did other subjects if we had difficulty with them and were behind where we were supposed to be so we could take our time to really learn it and not get behind.
I plan on homeschooling my children all year round, though a lighter load like I had in the summer so they can spend most of their time out side, we'll probably do school in the afternoon during the hottest part of the day so they can have the cool of the morning and evening to enjoy the outside world...and help me in the garden:)

I usually don't start until after Labor Day so I feel I need to school until the end of June. Then we do field trips all summer to the Zoo and find interesting facts about the animals and go on road trips to local historical areas around us. We live in El Paso, Tx so we have Carlsbad Caverns close, Ft. Bliss, The Chamizal that always has many different projects going on and they're usually free. Check out your community where you live for fun things in your area.
