10 yr old scared of dark after grandma died

It can be very scary to be alone in the dark with your thoughts and fears. That time at night right before you fall asleep is when you often can't help but face all the stuff that's bothering you but that you stay busy enough to ignore the rest of the day. I would do whatever was necessary to help my child feel safe and secure and get the sleep they need. So, I wouldn't have any problem using a night light or staying with my ten year old until they feel asleep. At the same time, you wan to make sure that your child is actually working through their feelings. Sitting and talking together in the dark may help. I think it's really important for kids to learn to put their feelings into words.
