What do you think will happen in 2012? If anything…I have read some stuff saying that the world will end…. that there will be a dramatic climate change…..that the world as WE know it will end….something about the suns solar flare getting so bad that all satellites will be destroyed….and some people are even buying up and building bomb shelters…what’s your take of December 2012??? or is it just another Y2K????

Well considering when the Spanish invaded the Mayans a lot of their books and scripts were destroyed. We were only left with bits and pieces, so it's not exactly concrete what they were predicting to happen. We just know their calendar ends.

I don't believe in any apocalyptic crap.

I don't think their will be a 3rd world war.

I do think a global change is coming. Global changes (that others have pointed out) are happening and have been for years now. Not just earthquakes but all natural disasters.

I also think a new spiritual age is coming though. A time of awakening. After all, Mayans held circular beliefs, with every ending there is a new beginning. So a new spiritual beginning is the one I choose to believe.

I also have faith in most of my fellow men though. That we will work towards a better future, instead of regressing and ending up killing everything. /:) That's already in effect though isn't it? Hello environmentalists, I'm talking about you. =P

I saw the Wife Swap and was hysterical laughing through the whole thing. With regards to Nostradamus...he was an opium smoking freak.

Great topic :)

I believe something is going to happened in 2012. I research allot of things. I was watching discovery channel and science networks

on the solar flare that is going to take place around that time. The scientist at nasa did huge amounts of research on this. Maybe it is not well known because they do not want people to panic. I am getting prepared sinced i am not an outdoors person :( i am getting ready by learning how to shoot, how to make fires, skining animals. I have been watching shows on tribes how they do things with little amounts of stuff, the wild chef that teaches how to cook with little of whats around your surrounding survival of the fittest. By 2011 i will be canning foods and buying allot of stocks of food in jars in cans because the scientis said they do not know how long the solar flare will last. I might buy gun to and learn how to build bunkers.

I don't think anything major is going to happen in 2012. I think gradually over time the world will end. Thousands of years type of gradual. If something instantaneous happens it might be a freak comet that strikes the earth like people have been predicting since basically the beginning of time but do I think that will magically happen in December 2012? No. I don't think a comet striking the earth ending it would have anything to do with the Mayan calendar or even the alignment of the planets. I think we live in a solar system with all kinds of comets, asteroids, etc and we get hit by rocks every day. If something big comes our way one day that's purely coincidental. And don't for one second think that Nasa or whoever is in charge of notifying the planet would make it known to the public. It would cause worldwide panic.

Also, with regards to the bible and what not...I think people see what they want to see. Now that all of this bologna is being said about 2012, people are finding signs of Revelations left right and center. People decided AFTER September 11, 2001 that Nostradamus had predicted those events. They pretty much read a few of his prophecies, picked one with metaphors that had minor similarities to the events of 9/11 and decided "oh he totally predicted that!" Same thing is happening now with all of this 2012 crap. Now that it's become a huge thing people pick apart and rearrange facts so that it corresponds with 2012 predictions. Global warming went from being a problem that was man made to the beginning of the events of 2012 basically over night. I think we've all seen too many movies!

think that something big is coming...I try to stay away from this topic because my tinfoil hat always starts to show.

I don't necesarily think that the worldis going to end on a particular day of a particular month, but I feel like the world is changing...there are natural disasters every other day these days...so much that we barely glance at a news story about natural disaster anymore.

I do want to start keeping a survival kit in the basement just in case...but that's not necessarily because of 2012, just in case of emergency.

It's all gonna happen on MY birthday!!! Dec.21 2012 I will be 39 that day!!
I really don't buy a lot of the hype, it's like the hype of Y2K. It's unfounded and based on fear. People are buying things like crazy, so it's good for economy ;)
I do have an interest in the celestial events scheduled to happen at that time. All the planets will be lined up for the first time in human history. Scientists are unsure of what this might mean for earth. The gravitational pull on our earth may be affected due to the gravitational pull of the planets closest to us, this may or may not affect the orbit of our moon.
It will be interesting to see what if anything comes of this as the next 18 months come and go...
But really I feel that on Dec. 22nd we're all gonna wake up and say "see I told ya so".

2012 is their plan to "fix" the economy screw ups -- sell more shit, rake us for all we are worth, and then, 'oops we made a mistake" when 2013 rolls around the corner. UGH!

Ill tell you what will happen .

The same thing that happens when December hits and the calender comes to an end , the cycle starts again .

Thats all it is the end of the of a cycle on the Mayan calendar like the end of a year but Hollywood would never had made as much money if they didn't spin it as some apocalyptic disaster would they ?

Im with Joanna on this one -- the end of the world will come when its supposed to come -- and for those who do have faith, and do read the bible - the signs are all over the place from Revelations, Daniel, etc.etc. -- Im not one to get into the hype - "omg! this happened the end times ishere!" but Im very aware of how things are happening and they match right up with what is going on in the world. Catastrophies, and weather climate change - were profecies in the Bible as well. NO one knows the end day - in my faith/veiws/religion - only HE knows.

So for me -- live your life, do good, be good, love, forgive. Focus on your dash. You know - on the tombstone there is a dash between the year you were born, and the year you die - what will your dash say? What do you want your life to be, remembered for, etc.etc.etc.

I can't stand listening to the people who get hysterical about the end of the world -- those are the same people who commit suicide because they are going to die anyways, some commit acts of violence or crimes, cause they are going to die anyways -- its retarded.

Its also a great marketing ploy, don't you think? Look at all the gobs of shit people buy - water, food, shelter stuff -- if the world is going to end -- what good is this stuff anyways? Great money making scheme for people.

Anyways, I have so much more I want to say - but I dont want to get into a war on here! LOL

ok logic says - its just another day.

But the mayans saw so much they shouldn't have been able to. it kind of freaks me out.

My husband wants to build a bunker & stock it with emergency supplies. I'm not helping him towards that end. I think we'll all be fine. Provided global warming doesn't kill us. But there is some little part just saying "what if....?"

I think the mayan calendar just ended a cycle. It will start a new one.

I don't believe it's the end of the world. It's like saying the world is going to end on December since it's the last month of the calendar.

THANKS, CATHY.. I was looking at the Direct TV guide earlier this evening and what was on the History International channel (abbreviation: HINT)?? Nostradamus: 500 years later (or something like that).. At least an hour long show, maybe two. Didn't watch it, though b/c my son was still up and I wasn't sure if it was something he should see or not.

Just thought that was kind of ironic.

I too think that there will be a huge climate change that will have a dramatic affect on the world as we know it, even know there are tornados and twisters in places where it didn’t use to be and snow in places where it wasn’t before, So in a way the world as we now it will change/be over, but now in the way that everyone will perish. Not to mention WW3, you have some countries that are not in favor of “Not using” there nuclear weapons….so who knows, we shall see very soon…I just hope its not pandemonium, cuz you have a lot of nut jobs out there that truly think the world will end, be destroyed……….

[deleted account]

This planet and life on it will die eventually - it's been dying since life started, people just don't think of it that way. When the sun burns out in whatever fashion it does - all life on this planet will end. Pure and simple.

[deleted account]

Cathy, most of his predictions only came 'true' because people retrofitted them to possibly mean whatever they wanted it to mean.

[deleted account]

Y2K could have been a very serious problem had programmers not worked their tushies off to fix it.

And no,nothing is going to happen. The remaing real-life Mayans all say nothing is going to happen. This is just another apocalyptic fantasy.

Jodi, I know people who believe in science also can believe that the world will end someday. I just meant I wasn't going to go into detail of why I believe the world will end someday b/c you all pretty much know my answer already.. So what point would there be in going into some great explanation?

@Cathy.. I'd say that's something to fear. Scientists predict that if there is a WWIII, the world will end b/c of all the nuclear weapons, which nobody had access to in the 1st and 2nd WW. I, for one, would like to have a few more kids first :/ Guess I better get crackin'..

Christina, you don't have to have religious beliefs to believe that one day the world will end. I think those with scientific beliefs also believe it, but when that will be, and how it will be, I don't think either the Bible nor science has been able to provide any detail, and really, do we want to know anyway?

I saw a new Wife Swap last week or the week before.. I think it was last week. The lady had her kids taking survival kits everywhere they went, even school.. No play, just survival training. Crazy woman.

Well, I do believe that one day the world will end (most of you know my beliefs, so I'm not going to elaborate unless asked) .. But that's another debate. Do I think it will end in 2012? No.

Y2K scared the crap out of me too Jessica. But in my case, I'd thought nothing of it until I was at a house party celebrating the millennium and just when the clock struck midnight, all the lights went out. Freaky! Then we looked outside and saw that the other houses still had their lights on and the street lights were still functioning. That's when the hostess realized that she'd forgotten to turn off her light timers. Oops.

I'm sure December 2012 will be similarly apocalyptic. Personally I suspect the Mayans just stopped bothering with the calendar when they were getting to 2012 because they were dealing with a whole lot of other problems at the time. But it is entertaining to watch all the nuts get all worked up about it.

I have to admit that the Y2K crap got to me... but only because I was 14/15 years old and battling some serious depression issues, and had this obsession/paranoia that the world was going to end anyway. Now I'm older, wiser and more mentally stable ;)

The world could end at any time. Where I live, there've been more earthquakes in the last few months than there had been in the previous 10 years or more. Weather's been doing some crazy stuff. The world could end tomorrow, it could end in 2012, it could end in the year 5000.

My motto is just live life like it's your last day. Never go to bed without hugging and kissing and loving your child like you might not see them again.

It's BS.
It's just when the Mayan calendar ended and they are no longer around to make the next one. There is nothing that says it's a prediction of the world ending, people have just blown it out of proportion.

And even if it was a Mayan prediction, their record isn't very good, so I wouldn't believe it anyway.

If you go to the NASA website, it says that there is absolutely no indication of the sun exploding, another planet or the moon smashing into us, etc.
Here's the website:
http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/feature...

I don't believe it whatsoever.

On a side note, there was a family on WifeSwap that were positive that this is the end of the world and their daughter is doing a countdown.....

Funny Y2K story- my family and I were in the family room in the basement watching the ball drop or something, and afterward we went to go back upstairs... and for some reason the door jammed and my dad had to spend 10 minutes trying to get it open.
