Addiction or just mommy time?

Someone said that I was addicted to the internet.

When and how would you call it an addiction? I go on the internet because I have it with me at my place of business and when it is slow, yes, I do my thing. I feel it's my time, since once I am done with work, it's MOMMY, WIFEY AND so forth time. I think it's just mommy time...addiction is completely something you need all the time, everytime, want and put all else before it. Addiction is more of an abuse of an action or substance. oh well, it's good to know that people can have their opinions. ; )

Honestly, if people are on here at work, it's not mommy time...it's done on their boss's time and boss's dime. If you're at home and it's not interferring with your family life, it's mommy time....If someone is putting the internet ahead of things that need to be done, then it's a problem.

@ Serena
As all good moms where else would we get our much needed breaks and if you sit really quietly and don't answer when they call, you can get a good 30 minute to yourself. while they call themselves horse looking for you.

Oooh, I LOVE time in the bathroom. I have a lock. That's where I go when I need time out :) Anytime my kids are just REALLY getting to me, I go to our ensuite. I just tell them I'm putting myself in time out.

@Desiree
You get time to read in the bathroom. I shut the door and somehow it still ends up open and the war for toilet paper begins LOL.

Every person needs thier own time. and Whether you spend it on the internet or watching TV, thats your choice. You don't want to get into a rut thats difficult to get out of, were you get depressed and feel as though the world is out to get you. Which sometimes happens with us moms. I can't remember the last time i didn't belong to someone. I'm someones mom. someones wife, someones sister, someones aunt someones daughter, someones bestfriend. When can I be just me. I normally take it when I am doing something I enjoy like playing a game on the computer or reading a book (Usually on the Loo with little hands knocking calling for mommy) or even scrapbooking. So no I don't think its an additiction for you it when you belong to no one else but yourself. and the only time you can tell the world to stop for a few minutes or hours so you can get out of the race and be "JUST ME!" The word addiction is used by family and loved ones who are jealouse of the time you don't spend on them doing what they want or how they want, well you know what life isn't made up of what their wants and needs and sometimes it tells them to go away.

It's definitely my portal to the outside world since I live 600km from my old friends and my mum.

I agree with Jodi, it often times is my portal to the outside world. As much as I enjoy my conversations with my 4 year old some type of adult interaction a day is healthy.

LOL, I goof off on the internet all the time while I am working :)

I work at home, my business is at home (and I own it), so I sometimes slack off :) But I am also known to be working at 10pm in the evening sometimes too, so I guess it all works out. I wouldn't call it addicted. I'd say I just find it a bit of relief from the mundane :P

Believe me, working on your own at home can be fucking boring (even when talking to people on the phone) ......especially when you finally get human company it is your kids at 3 o'clock reading you "This Is Sam" or something.......

If you can't focus on your job and opt to goof off on teh internet while "working" - then you're addicted.

Yes, Emma I agree to that one. If things aren't done and need to be on the internet. Couldn't have said it better.

Thanks ladies, Drama isn't my cup of tea, and as far as my time at work. It's my business, I am my own boss. So no, I am not using other peoples money to be here. I do agree with Julie, that if it interferes with your life it's probably addiction.

This made me think of something.....Ok, I know this is going to be a bit off topic BUT is the internet an addiction or can we as a society not live with the internet? I think now how I go on everyday and if I didnt have the internet I would go batty....But still it makes you wonder....Perhaps that is something for another thread though.... ;)

I spend A LOT of time on the net. Because I have nothing else to do if all my friends are busy that day or at work. I also have a relatively clean house and look after my baby to the best of my ability and have social in real life time with friends. I will literally leave the washing in the machine and go out with friends if someone asks rather than stay on here killing time between loads. An addiction to the internet is like, when you'd rather stay home on the net than do anything else and your baby is screaming their head off for food and it's like OI STOP THAT MUMMY IS ONLINE and the washing is piling up and dishes are everywhere and nothing has been cooked for dinner.

If it interferes with your life, it's probably an addiction. If it is your "entertainment" time, it's not. ... especially, I think, if you don't really watch TV.

I think YOU know when it's an addiction. Opinions are just opinions. Are you reaching out? :P
