Lowes can do what they want, but I think it's pathetic and cowardly and they should be ashamed of themselves. I haven't seen the show, but I have had a lot of Muslim friends, and they are very "normal." If you're going to suggest that the show is "dangerous" because it portrays Muslims as normal, rational people and doesn't talk about the extremist minority, then any show where the characters are of a particular religion and are not portrayed as crazy extremists is "dangerous."

Yes, I heard about Lowe's being silly. It is their right to pull their ads, but a less controversial show I don't know of. However, it is also my right to go to Home Depot instead of Lowe's.

As to showing Muslim terrorists, perhaps every show about Christians should include references to the Westboro Baptist Church and Jim Koresh, lest we think Christians are all nice, normal folks.

I have seen it....I am not sure how I feel about it though. I do feel that every company has the right to pick and choose what shows, or views they want. That being said I do not feel that I have to agree with it or find it any less stupid.....that is my mommy brained answer.

No problem Pamela :) I used to have problems with CBC clips on youtube when I lived in the US.

Rebecca 3, we didn't subscribe to that package from Shaw. I think Shaw is stupid in the first place because back in the US when you get digital cable you get all the basic packages in the first place then extras. And I live in Kelowna, definitely not remote. Terrace, St George, Ft St John, those are remote.

Sylvia! Who in their right mind believes that all religions are equal? Seriously that is soo messed up! Really! Just because the three mono theistic religions all believe in the same God!

Rebecca Three, from what I understand the fact that it's boring and vanilla is exactly what the nutbars who complained to Lowe's were upset about -- they wanted the show to portray at least some of the Muslim characters as radicals and/or terrorists. Because otherwise viewers might think that Muslims are just like everybody else! And we can't have that!!

You can't make this sh!t up.

Meghan, do you mean your family personally doesn't subscribe to TLC, or that Canada doesn't have TLC?

Just curious, I've lived all over Canada and TLC generally comes with the cheaper cable package. Maybe you live somewhere in Canada that is remote though?

I've seen the show and it is pretty boring. I'm not sure why anyone would be up in arms about it for any reason, it really is pretty vanilla stuff.

I agree that Lowe's had a right to pull their ad for any reason; what I object to is their decision to announce their decision and the basis for it. Kowtowing to a group of ignorant fools is deplorable IMHO. They could have easily have pulled the ad without any commentary. Instead, they chose to make a bigoted statement by announcing their actions. They have also lost my business -- I will shop at Home Depot and Menard's instead.

Yes, Becky, absolutely. If seeing normal, ordinary people portrayed on TV as normal and ordinary is scary to someone, then there's something wrong with how that person sees the world.

Agreed Becky. I worked as a care aide back in NYS and one of my assignments was a Muslim man who'd had a stroke. He was very nice and always asking me how my pregnancy was going and how my older daughter was doing at school.

The grocery store around the corner from my parents' home has at least two Muslim women working there. The grocery store chain is Wegmans BTW, I'm sure they wouldn't be so cowardly as to pull their adverts from a time slot because it shows Muslims in a positive light.

Brianna, we don't have the package from our cable company. I should've said that instead.

My MIL has it up where she lives and I want to get that package for myself because I watched it all the time back in New York. You guys don't get WE TV either and I miss that because I always watched Bridezillas.

Johnny, I love it too! I used to watch the episodes on youtube back home, now I watch it on CHBC (or something like that)

lowe's has the right to pull their ad. although, they just opened a store 5 minutes from my work, and i was planning to check it out in january for during our basement reno work. now, i'll be heading back to home hardware, because they've lost my business. which is also my perogative. i'd like to hope that there are more offended muslims and other people who think these people are being bigots about this show than there are bigots who are opposed to the show. but who knows anymore. people don't think too deep.

oh, and i ♥ Little Mosque on the Prairie.

I'm in Canada and we don't get TLC Canada so I can't watch the show and I would love to after seeing some of the cast on Anderson.

I have no idea about the controversy.

ETA: These Conservative idiots would LOVE Little Mosque on the Prairie.

It's their right to buy or not buy airtime on whatever shows they want. Whatever. I think it was stupid of them, as well as cowardly, to pull their advertising from this perfectly innocuous show because a few particularly wackadoo members of the public said they should.
