An Oxnard teacher fired for being in a pornographic video before she was hired is fighting back.

Stacie Halas, 32, had taught science at Richard B Haydock Intermediate School since 2009, and prior to her employment she appeared in adult movies.

School board trustees decided on Wednesday to fire Halas. She had been on paid administrative leave since her porn acting surfaced last month. Halas has 30 days to appeal the decision by requesting a hearing with an administrative law judge.

Oakes said Halas’ case is unusual, but her attorney, who did not return calls made by NBC4 news on Monday, may be building the case based on precedence outside the state.

"The idea that the school should be policing your past is something that makes a lot of people uncomfortable," Oakes said.

Sean Loftis is a substitute teacher in Miami Beach who starred in gay porn and, like Halas, he was fired based on the school’s code of ethics. After months of public discussion, the school board has cleared him to pursue his teaching certificate again.

Oaks said Loftis’ case will likely be cited as Halas works to defend her name and teaching record in Oxnard.

"It can have a lot of heft if you have a very similar case in Florida where a teacher won and here there’s no real California law on the issue," Oaks said.

Hmmm - honestly I am not sure that I would really care. I mean, if they are a good teacher and my child is learning within their class (of course about the subject, not about pornography! lol), then what is the problem? I really don't see any problem. As long as they are dressing appropriately and not speaking about their past to the students.

Thoughts? Would you have a problem if it leaked that a teacher of your child's was a porn star in the past, before becoming a teacher?

Would not matter to me but, my husband would never attend parent-teacher conferences.

This story infuriates me! Obviously, most of the moms here seem to be on the same page, but what other profession is a person's PAST as important as her PRESENT? Teachers must earn at least a Bachelor's degree, and their income is rather low for a profession requiring a degree, yet they are held to these abnormal standards as people. The parents who smoke pot in front of their kids and teach hate aren't relieved of their parenting duties.

No I wouldnt' care at all. I'd be a major hypocrite if I did mind because I do enjoy porn on the odd occasion. It's also not anyone's business unless past behavior would have a direct impact on a person's job - such as a convicted thief working as a bank teller.

Assuming acting in porn is not illegal the teacher has not broken any laws and everyone involved was consenting. If we are sacking teachers for immoral actions shall we sack all those who have children out of wedlock, or those who have sex outside marriage, would we have any teachers left if we did?
I would be more upset to learn my child's teacher had a criminal record or had been involved in illegal activities.

I would have zero issue with it. I am assuming that the teacher wasn't talking about porn in the classroom or telling sordid tales of her past to a bunch of 12 year olds. What I do have an issue with is people firing a woman for this. I am SO over the morality police.

i don't see why her involvement in the porn industry has anything to do with how she teaches. i wouldn't give a damn if my child's teacher used to be a porn star. more power to them.

Um no unless it was child porn. Children shouldn't be watching porn therefore they wouldn't know or see their teacher naked. I don't care what teachers do in their free time as long as they are a good teacher. Unless they are a pedo.

I'll have to share this one with my hubby. I have my teaching degree and he often jokes that I need to make a porn or go strip to pay off my crazy loans Lol!

I would have no problem with this if the teacher was effective at their job and had no issues...who cares if they stripped or fucked their way through their twenties? If they are cool with kids being able to see them online in porn (high school kids would be curious, right?...Look at Mr. B get from this big dude!...kinda of link) and still don't mind getting up there - then more power to 'em.

It wouldn't make a difference to me. As long as the past was left in the past who cares.

If the school has a strict code of ethics they should research a potential employees background before offering them a job.
