It's another spinoff. This time of the Pornography thread.

Ok, so I really want to know what you ladies think.. Is porn an 'art'??

We actually have a friend that says he watches it b/c it's 'art', though NONE of us (not even his wife, buys that as the real reason). My husband watches/watched and he admitted it was never b/c he thought it was an art form. So what are your thoughts? Art or not?

The thing is Christiana, no one said you were stupid or implied you were stupid. Laura just clarified what I was saying and two people agreed with her that that is the way they took it too.

Dana meant that SHE had just read the replies (past tense) not that YOU should read them...I'm pretty sure...that's why her answer changed.

No I wouldn't call it art. Because it's intention is not to be art. It's a fat, balding man wearing gold chains sitting in a chair with a rye and coke directing a woman with big fake tatas to hold her arse at the right level so the camera man can get a good cookie shot.
Now if it was pornography with intention of being art which as a former art student i've seen plenty of, that's art. It's intention isn't for masturbation it's to make a statement.

There's a whole lot of things that I would consider art that you would call porn...but if I call it porn, I'm pretty sure nobody's calling it art ;P

Hm. Well myself and my partner watch porn occasionally. I personally have nothing against it, but I know that others can. BUT I don't think it is "art". Not at all. There is nothing creative about porn, though some of it is really "interesting." Lol. So my opinion, NOT. Nude paintings is art. I don't think sex is an art. The implications in paintings is better than straight forward porn. That and porn can scare me sometimes. Lol.

I know read can be said two different ways, I'm not an idiot. That's why I didn't think it was very nice. Just b/c someone misread, doesn't mean they're stupid.

And in my defense, your post could be read two different ways and still make sense.. Especially when you haven't had much sleep.

Dana.. I just thought Cathy's comment ("That's how I read (red) it too, Laura!") was a little.. Not rude, but just not that nice.. I don't know. I think I'm going all hormonal again.

And Kim.. That one always makes me laugh so hard :)

Go ahead, make your stupid little jokes.. So I read it in the wrong context, excuse me!

Depends who you ask, I suppose. I would consider porn to be art.

Edited to add: Haha! I just realized that I typed WOULD when I actually meant WOULD NOT! My bad...

As far as actual videos, from ones I've seen I'm going to say NO! Three's nothing artistic about it, in fact its so freaking goofy I don't know how anyone can even take it seriously. We used to watch it in college sometimes just for laughs!

Now paintings, some photography (not just being on set and taking pictures), literature can be artistic, imo.

Yes girls, thanks, that's how I meant it.

And Christina I mentioned the other thread because I was unsure of your definition of porn, once I read the replies, I got my answer, hence the change in my answer.

I don't know if I've ever thought of it as art, but I do watch it sometimes. Sometimes alone and sometimes we watch together. But like I said - sometimes! It's not very often.

Oh, Carol.. :) We can all do that if we wanted to.

Anyway, I was just asking if pornography (videos) was art or not. Just wanted to see what you all thought.

I can create dirty pictures in my head without the assistance of film or literature, does that make me art or porn?

What are you telling me to read the replies for, Dana?

Anyway, yes I think that reading graphic novels is the same as looking at porn.. You're creating it in your head. What does the other thread have to do with this one, other than the fact that it's about porn??

Okay just read the replies, Pornographic movies, not art, sex...mostly dirty sex.

No, it's not an art, unless you're talking about paintings. What do you consider porn? Didn't you think reading sex scenes in books were wrong?

They probably call it art because they want to make it look/sound better than it really is lol.....more normal in a sense and not frowned upon.

[deleted account]

Well, by definition, anything created to express an idea is art, so I guess technically, it is art. Now, whether it is GOOD art, worth looking at, that is another question.

Erotica is art, so is the Kama Sutra, I suppose to some people porn isn't art and for some it could be, but if it's called porn I don't think it has much artistic merit to me.

Pornographic movies ?

Although i ebjoy them i am yet to see one i would call art , however stills and sculpture can be artistic and i LOVE the Karma sutra art depicted in books .

Art imitates life, life imitates art..beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that jizz, I mean, jazz. Anything can be construed as art, and often is.

my point was...that it's all subjective...some people call the kama sutra pornography...and that book (to me) is art.

you are speaking of one VERY SPECIFIC type of pornography, which is the type I referred to at the end of my post...the type I call porn, and nobody calls art.

See.. Now I understand the whole painting thing. One of my good friends LOVES the human body, naked or clothed, thin or thick and she paints them BEAUTIFULLY! Even though I am quite conservative about such things (anything that could be deemed sexual), I do see how it is also considered beautiful and therefore an art.

But I just don't get the whole having sex on camera how that's an art.

I think its art, when a photographer is on the set of a Porn movie and taking pics of a women or man in action…(what ever that may be)

Or it could be “ART in Motion”

i think some naked sex acts could be considered art if painted, or scupted, but just plain old gettin it on porn on video-no not so much.

she is telling big porkies......i won;t go to an "ART" gallery if i don;t like the art, if i don't like an author i won't read their work, or watch a crap movies because i review said it was art, so i certainly wouldn't watch porn if i didn't like it...mind you some of the surgial inhancemnts the girls are sporting could be classed as sculputures!

I think some still work can be considered art but as far as video or dirty lit- nah.
