The pope basically states that Hitler was an Athiest and that his atheism drove him to mass murder.

Well, for a start. Hitler was a self professed Roman Catholic who used centuries of RC propoganda to justify the slaughter of too many innocent people. He states in Mein Kampf that his war was started in the name of the RC god. The RC church were the first body that Hitler agreed to sign a treaty with. There is evidence that suggests the RC church were already talking to Hitler about taking the country to war before he was even elected.

And this...

http://www.secularism.org.uk/hitlers-ele...

Hitlers election campaign poster using the concordat of Pius XII, the pope at the time.

The scary thing about this is that people will actually believe him. The Catholic League, http://www.catholicleague.org/release.ph... , have already suggested that athiests must apologise for the actions of Hitler, Stalin and Mao. Even going so far as LYING and saying they committed those atrocities in the name of athiesm.

They even state the the pope is innocent of any misconduct. Errrm... the covering for peadophiles and the enabling of these crimes? Ring a bell anyone?

Am I the only one worried about this blatant propoganda? About how these nasty, vicious lies will affect our children and the evolution of morals and society in a negative manner?

Am I just banging my head against a brick wall? I swear just thinking about this raises my blood pressure.

all i can do is shake my head. why, oh why is atheism vilified so much?? i don't get it. i hear that religious folk are perfect, and just incapable of commiting a crime, but if you look at our prisons you will find a very different story. less than 1% of the prison population is atheist-so the religious are about 40-50 times more likely to be in prison than an atheist. the villifying of something that people obivously know nothing about irritates the hell out of me.

This from a man who was in the Hitler Youth. Surely this makes him a complete hypocrite for belonging to an organisation that promoted the mass murder of Jews, rather like working for a current organisation that feels the only problem with child abuse is that the victims won't forgive the abusers.

Wow...as a Catholic, I am offended that this man clearly thinks all of us are uneducated fools or brain-dead sheep...I didn't approve of him when he was first chosen, and he's done nothing in the last couple years to change my opinion of him...what an ass!

If the Pope is the servant of God on earth why does he need a bulletproof car, surely if he is that important God would protect him, even the Queen rides in open topped vehicles and she hasn't been shot at lately.

I'm not suprised he would say this. The Catholic church hasn't been well known for their accountability as evidenced by the ongoing child abuse scandal. And to go after athiests? We're not even freakin organised, we just happen to share a common point of view on supernatural deities.

The Vatican is just so irrelevant. Can we pretty please just turn it into a museum and be done with it?

Ok so maybe i'm wrong about this... but wasn't the whole Roman Catholic church started so Roman Emperors could keep their power during a time when their empire was crumbling?

Ewwww, please Jessica, say that I am able to eat and have sex again, can we please keep those mental images of the Pope to a minimum LOL :)

hehe Tracey, I always wondered that to....you'd think he of all people would have "faith" that the Lord is there to protect him....oh wait, nope, it's all that money he/the vatican has that protects his wrinkly ass, hehe

Honestly, every time I see the Pope in his bubble car, all I can think is that he looks like a tic-tac.

That is so true Sara. Have you been to the Vatican? My husband almost had to drag me out as my indignant mutterings were starting to get a little loud and irate. LOL. How can they justify that much opulence when I'm sure the majority of their followers are on the poverty line?! The Swiss Guard are hilarious though so I still recommend visiting, LOL. AND I took photos in the Sistene Chapel. Suck on that Pope. :P

If atheisists need to apologize for Hitler, Stalin and Mao then the Catholics should have to appologize for any war/halacaust caused by ALL OTHER RELIGIONS as well.
Why do they have this US vs THEM mentality any ways. Christian vs "Non"-Christian. Heathenists vs Christianity. It's like there are Christians and then they group the rest of us into one huge group. I would never think that just because i don't believe in Christianity and that allegedly Hitler didn't either that would make us in the same group. Unlike with religion we do not share the same values and belief systems just because we are both 'athesist'. Hitler DOESN"T represent 'athesists' just because he himself is allegedly an athiest. But the Catholic Church DOES represent Catholism and were the head of the wars specifically against other religions and 'non-believers'. If we should have to apologize for Hitler than they should have to apologize for any Christian-based Cult that murders people.

So the Pope, for some reason, has decided to take the "Wud'n me" stance for the holocaust when the reasons for this particular genocide have been widely known for the last 60 years. Awesome. Why is he doing this again???

I am confident that most people will have a similar reaction to what you guys are saying, but the scary thing is that he will probably have ample support from some die-hards in saying "nu uh, it was the atheists."

Are there grounds for firing a Pope? There should be. Seriously. This is completely effed up.

This coming from the same man who refuses to tell people in 'Africa to use condoms to help the AIDS epidemic there. The catholic church needs to step into the 21st century. The vatican should be ashamed of themselves...

That's what I was thinking Cathy. As an Atheist I dislike/like all religions equally. They're all crackpots as far as I'm concerned. Why would an Atheist just pick one religion to slaughter and leave the others? That makes no sense.

However, I didn't really get riled up about this. I mean, it made me laugh, but really it's just one more hypocritical lie to add to the huge flaming pile of lies that is religion. All I can do is make sure my children grow up believing in rational thinking.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Pretty much everyone I come into regular contact with is christian/catholic and believe that atheism is "brought by the devil to gather his following" (yes, someone actually said this to me lol).

"In the NAME of atheism"?? Um, last I check Atheism meant the belief that one could not know any god exists, so there is nothing they worship. That being the case, can one do something in name of the belief of the absence of something??? It kinda messes with my head.

I don't think I can start on how much I really don't like the RC church, but this makes it worse.

I think labeling it as "propaganda" is accurate, perhaps they wanted to "dump" those creators of atrocities onto another faith (or lack thereof). Not sure one can make me believe any differently.

mmmm okay so atheism caused the Holocaust... so I guess the Crusades and all were legit right? Basically you can kill innocent people because they are different from you only if you hide behind the idea that Christianity is the only way to go...

You can only be deranged if you don't believe in God... Well put me in a straight jacket right now and escort me to my nice fluffly padded room...

Jesus Christ! (ha)

Seriously, it's BS like this that people just blindly believe and people like this that people just blindly follow that are the problem.

Innocent of misconduct had me ROFL. Great piece.

No you are not the only one worried either. I'm sure there are many, I hope, that will not take it at face value. Until they actually stand up and say ENOUGH, you're making us all look like fools. Then nothing is going to change.

Oh wait what did that say I just stroked out or a second. Oh shit it still says that Atheist caused the holocaust.

Don't worry when the textbook makers in Texas hear about this they will set the record straight.
