I just wanted to pass this on to spread the word of a tragic young life lost today. He's a hero in everyones eyes in Australia.
This news tore at my heart strings along with the tragic loss of a 4 year old boy who fell overboard off a rescue boat. I'm sure over the next couple of days there will be many more tragic stories and lives lost. The devastation Australia is facing is catastrophic, I don't live in Brisbane but I feel for everything they have lost :(

In memory of a young hero. Jordan Rice aged 13, swept away in flash flood in Toowoomba. Jordan told the rescuers to save his younger brother Blake (10) 1st before losing his own life... Jordan you are an angel in disguise. May you get your wings now in heaven R.I.P.

My thoughts are with everyone in QLD, in the next week 5 of the 7 states here are suppose to flood fingers crossed the damage won't be nearly as close to that in Queensland.

:( R.I.P to all those who have passed and my thoughts are with those and the families who are missing

Even parts of Tasmania are cut off by floodwater! My daughter and her family live in Hobart but they're OK.

Kathy, I'm in Newcastle. I don't have family there, but I do have a few friends. They are safe and didn't need to evacuate, although one is very close to Oxley and is totally cut off. She's a single mum with a 20mth old son and can't get any milk for him. Though that's small fries in the grand scheme of things.

I can't believe that man who died today trying to get back to his house! That water looks still but it's still deadly :(

I used to live in Canberra, many years ago! My husband's sister lives in Brisbane, but they live in a suburb unaffected by the floods.
Aussies will rally round.

Kathy, I don't know why I though you were originally from Queensland :) Anyway, no, I am in Canberra. My husband has cousins in Ipswich, but they are all present and accounted for. Only one of them had a home at risk, we haven't heard yet if they lost anything. But the important thing is that they are safe.

And yes, we Aussies do all pull together when it counts :)

For anyone who wants to donate, here is the link to the Flood Appeal:

So much has been lost, they could use all the help they can get. Financial donations will mean people spending money in their own community and supporting the businesses who lost so much, giving the communities a chance to rebuild.

Us Aussie always pull together when we need to , we have a great sense of mateship .

Yes, I love that quote of Anna Bligh's. I've been impressed with her.

Yes, Erin, we're resilient. We've been through bad stuff and come out fighting and ready to stand up and help our neighbours. It was great to hear that the people of Kingslake, badly affected by the 2009 bushfires, have donated to the flood appeal.
Where are you from, Erin? Are you and your family OK?

I shared this quote on my FB status the other day...

'This weather may be breaking our hearts at the moment, but it will not break our will' - Anna Bligh

The footage of a family's last moments as they got swept away in their car is etched on my brain. The interview with a man who spent 12hrs on his roof while he watched people (both dead and alive) get swept past him is fresh in my memory. It is a catastrophe on a scale we haven't seen here in a long long time.

Queenslanders have a long recovery in front of them, but us Aussies are a special breed. We are resilient, and positive, and look after our own. Our fighting spirit will be much needed in the weeks and months to come as so many people put their lives back together.

No, Jodi, I'm in Melbourne. Used to live in Hobart and even Tassie's on flood alert! What about you?

kathy, how are your friends and family? You are from QLD originally aren't you?

Yes, a tragic situation. Some places are over the worst of the rain - now waiting for the waters to recede before the cleanup can begin.
Other parts of our nation are now on flood alert - and there are bushfires in Western Australia!
Thinking of everyone.

Terrible tragedy. I pray for all the families and my friends who live there.
