One of my *acquaintances* took her son to the adult shop (the shops with dildos and porn and 10L dispensers of lube) to look at stuff (he's 3 ) and got kicked out because only children under 2 are allowed. Anyway... I wouldn't be comfortable taking any age baby or child into the adult shop. Discuss.

I manage an adult toy store and any kids of ANY age are forbidden to come in the store. It's against the law... I had a mom bring in a 3 week old this week and had to ask her to leave bc I would get in trouble

I can't remember the last time I went into such a place ... pretty sure it was pre-kid ;) I think I'd draw the line at younger than 2, though maybe only because my DD was *very verbal* and *very curious* at 2 ...

It is not only about you and your child, it is the comfort level of the other adults in that store you need to take into consideration. It is not a store for children of any ages.

I had my baby young. I was just 17 when he was born and a month later I turned 18. I was so excited about being able to go to the adult shop to take a look, but we werent allowed in there with my 1 month old!

I think under 6months old should be allowed. At that age they arent really too aware of their surroundings.

Dear, that is lovely. Please show your children the beauty of life. Just as I show mine lots of adult toys because I want them to mature when they grow up to know what it takes to make him yours have been taking my kids on lots of adventures to the adult shop. We even have our own pole at home so I can practice for my honey boo bo guy.

I've taken a newborn infant into one before - not one of the sleazy ones, but a nice clean one that primarily had cute dresses and party favours.

But I'd never do that with a child who any sort of awareness. Even 3 months is too old in my books. And a 3 year old would just seem obscene to me.

I wouldn't go into a adult shop full stop and definately not with a child not even an infant my little girl at only a couple of weeks old I went shopping looking for clothes and she was looking up at all the pretty dresses and smiling and making noises you just don't know how much a child is taking in.

She thinks that I'm her friend because we went on the bus together in high school (weren't even friends then she is like 4 years older than me) and her mum knows Damian's mum and we both live in CQ now so automatically we're best mates and she used to text me every day adn want to meet up adn want me to baby sit her kid and it was just too much so I decided to ignore her and then she kept texting and turned up at the house and was all WE SHOULD GO OUT FOR LUNCH I'LL CALL YOU and then she came back ( I was out the back and didn't answer the door and she got annoyed and left)

You were being stalked by a woman who takes her children to sex shops? That's terrifying!

ROFL she's not my friend she is that chick who stalked me and kept texting me even though I didn't reply and then turned up at my house at 8am

I also agree totally with Sherri on this one. I would (and have, and do) drink a beer in front of my toddler. But I definitely wouldn't be using any sex shop items in front of him, thankyouverymuch.

Well, stop the presses, I completely agree with Sherri on this one. I see kids in the liquor store all the time. One of the cashiers has stickers (not liquor related - usually kittens or hearts) for the kids.

Oh, well, as long as they don't have all the bottles vibrating, shaped like penises and vaginas with explicit porn playing in the background....I am fine to walk in and grab a case of beer with my kids. I prefer not to....cause those are heavy, and pushing a stroller or carrying my daughter would not be convenient,.

Awe Emma, don't judge your stupid friend for bringing in her 3 year old to an adult store. He probably thought "wow LOOK at all these great toys! I especially like the ones that make the humming noise, and those long beads that I can swing around! My mommy says they are for the butt.....not sure how to swing and play with them like that though"

Hey, momma has to get her groove on right? He can go play with the blow up dolls, and the ever realistic rubber vaginas. Hell, he might learn a thing or two. Don't we all encourage sex education? Come on ladies....be nice and supportive of our fellow mom. Girls gotta get her "O" face on! A happy momma makes a happy home!

I am glad that the people who were working had more sense than your friend did. Talk about lack of judgement.

I'd honestly leave any adult store that let children in. Ours are clearly marked and I have never seen a child in one. They say "No one under 18 permitted".

Even when I did live 3 hours away from the city I didn't take my child (at the time I only had 1) in. I planned around her. So I'll echo Johnny and stick with no.

I'm pretty sure newborn babies don't have the vision acuity to see what's on the shelves that well anyway. Since I live in the city, I can't imagine ever having a reason to take a child into an adult store. But I could see hypothetically if I lived remotely, was unable to order sex toys on line, and my life depended on getting that vibrator, I might run it quickly while the baby was sleeping in the carrier. But that just seems sooooooooo far-fetched that I'm just going to stick with my original response, no!

I'm guessing a new born probably couldn't care less but my kid isn't even 2 yet and I can see him picking up stuff like he does everywhere we go and going SEE! and thrusting things at me!

[deleted account]

Well there's a reason that they shops are called ADULT stores. Why people insist on taking their kids everywhere is beyond me. Infants---no problem. They could care less about their surroundings. But I do question the parent's judgement in bringing an older toddler/small child into an adult shop. Seriously? Is this an errand you can run another time?!

Ironically- hubby is a mailman that delivers to an adult store and he commented that he has seen small kids in the store---owner's kids!

Oh and as for the OP you go ahead and Judge Emma, that is far too old and yet not old enough to be in an adult store!

If they were wee little in a sling and asleep I would take my infant into an adult store if I didn't have a sitter and needed to go. There are worse places I could think of taking a newborn, like a hospital emergency ward.

edited to add

*need to go would mean, buying a gift for someone etc. the nearest adult store is over an hour away, so if I were there and had my newborn, yes I would go in rather than make another trip. But it hasn't happened yet, just saying that with a sleeping baby, it isn't like they are a toddler and can ask questions etc. and again there are far worse places to take a new baby.

I had a very valid reason for buying penis chocolates once. My little man was about 6 months. I don't think it damaged him. I wouldn't take him now. 'PENIS!!!!!' I can hear the shouts now.

Not really an appropriate place to be visiting with a kid of any age in tow.
I especially wouldn't take my kids in there, at 2 and 3 they would ask way too many questions.

Yeah, no. I'd have the squicks at the thought of taking a kid in there, even as an infant. And the only adult shop that I would be seen going into is a very woman-friendly shop down in Halifax that contains more in the way of erotica and books on sexuality than anything else -- the really naughty stuff is in the back of the store.

10L dispensers of lube? That seems a wee bit excessive, doesn't it?
