Cafemom

Not for weak stomachs.

Stuff gets into our food and drinks. It happens. I challenge the person who says they’ve never found a hair in their pasta (blech) or a dead wasp in their turkey sub from Wegmans (true story). It’s gross, but if we want to eat, it’s an unfortunate fact of life we just have to deal with. A condom, though? That is just all kinds of wrong.

A woman in Sweden was pouring the last bit of filmjolk, a popular fermented milk, into her dog’s bowl when oops! Out came a condom. Oh, and the wrapper, a receipt, and a plastic ring.

I don’t know about you, but that’s just about the nastiest thing I’ve ever heard. I mean, I don't even know what to say here. Well, actually, I do: Barf.

Things, bad things, happened to me when I found that wasp. I couldn't eat for days. I couldn't lay eyes on an insect without my gag reflex being triggered -- and now this has brought all those hellish memories back. Times two!

Of course, this didn't stop me from taking a trip down Google Lane to see what other unbelievably disgusting things people have found in their food -- and let me tell you, a wasp is looking pretty good right now.

First, I stumbled upon the time Katherine Ortega discovered a fried chicken head in her Chicken McNuggets. Oof. Wow.

Then, I read about how Tim Hoffman found a frog in his bag of frozen veggies. Oh boy.

After that, I perused an article about Fred and Amy Denegri finding a mouse in their can of Pepsi. No comment.

But nothing -- and I mean nothing -- can top Clarence Stowers finding a severed finger in his pint of frozen custard! Mommy! Help!

Pretty yucky stuff, if I do say so myself. Kind of makes me want to never -- ever -- not grow my own food, wash it 17 times, and cook it myself again.

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever found in your food?

I used to work at a pizza place and one time this guy called up and said he found a tooth in his pizza.
Everyone was like WHAT??? A freakin tooth? He kept asking if we had dogs there. Well we didn't believe him so we sent the driver back to pick up the pizza and sure enough there was a tooth.
So we gave him a free pizza.
The next day he calls again saying he was really drunk that night and wok up in the morning and found a tooth missing, and did we still have it?
MORON! We threw it away LMAO!!!!

This isn't something i 'found' in food, persay -- but once at my grandmother's house, i went to get some cottage cheese for a snack - LOVED cottage cheese - the container was pretty full, and the seal was pulled only half-way off -- seemed good to me. So i started eating it - tasted kinda more sour than the usual taste of cottage cheese - went to check out the container - and pulled the rest of the seal off - to find the other side hairy with white mold - needless to say the bushes got a feast - i dont think i quit puking for quite some time!! And to this day, im super picky about cottage cheese, i buy it and eat it up as soon as i can - if its been sitting more than a week - due date or not - i will not eat it! I always double check all food for spoilage of any sort!

Do you ladies ever get paranoid about fast food joints? I have heard plenty of horror stories of employees spitting in the food or putting bugs in it...or even (brace yourselves) the male employees putting their 'seed' in it!!! Totally GROSS!!! I've heard some folks urinating in customer's drinks....and even putting snot from their nose into their food!!!! I ALWAYS check my food before I eat it (at fastfood places and all restaraunts) and if it remotely looks like there might be something in it....I will NOT eat it...oh and as for me ever finding anything gross in my food....well I was about 8 years old and my stepdad had just grilled some hamburgers. I bit into mine and thought "Hmmm, this sure is crunchy!" only to find that I had just bit a ROACH in half!!!! I swear I vomited for 3 hours after that! To this day, I still get queasy thinking about that!!!

A fly sitting in a brand new can of spinache....opened it up and it was the biggest deadest mother fucker.

I USED to get the big boxes of organic sweet mix lettuce, from like 1 town over from me. It is so fresh that it had a big fat dirty grub sitting on the bottom of the container. I cannot eat it any more. I have to buy my head of lettuce and miticulously wash every piece. I was only using them to make life a little easier with the 2 kids,....not worth it.

LMAO, this is so gross. I found a slug in my salad and and a live spider in a packet of chips. When I worked at subway as a teenager this kid was working next to me and he had a really bad cold, I looked over to see his nose dripping into the sub, I almost vomited, yes I threw his sub out and he got sent home. I remember reading something about a woman finding a big pus cyst in a McChicken burger once.

I love that KFC regularly includes free feathers on their wicked wings but those little things are so tasty I pick the little added bonuses off and keep on eating. They've been cooked to the edge of oblivion I'm sure there's nothing harmful on them.

Jennifer - thanks for the visual for ketchup - (or anything heinz) makes me want some real soon ;) blah!
My sister worked for tombstone/kraft - the workers arent allowed off of work when they are sick - lots with bronchitis or pnemonia hacking all over food - that makes you want to warm up to a nice pizza real soon --- lots of nasty stuff i really dont want to think about when it comes to factory/processed foods....

Hair, some bugs (those little gnats or flies that i found in my salad).
My SIL found skin on her pizza - like someone peeled or cut off their caloused skin - it was nasty.
When I was prego with my third - we were at a friends for a fish fry - he makes the best fish fry batter ever - now being miss gag-queen as it is - i went to start eating my fish, and lets just say he didnt scale the fish really well - little round scales all over in my mouth, and trying to get them out while gagging an puking really sucked! attemped to try another piece of fish, very reluctantly - same exact thing happened again - needless to say, I didnt eat anymore fish that day - and im VERY VERY picky when it comes to eating fish even to this day (that was over 5 years ago).

My mom use to work for Heinz... her job was to pick dead mice, snakes, insects what have you, off a conveyor belt of field tomatos. Next process... processing into tomato paste. My mom was curious about what happened to the ones they missed? Apparently the line was fast and a lot of 'undesirables' went unpicked.

Nobody would answer to that question..... Did I ruin North America's most popular condiment for you?

One time I was eating a garden salad... literally from my garden. I was just about to take a bite when I saw an ant run through my salad. I began shuffling through the lettuce leaves and I discovered a SLUG. I picked it out and looked thoroughly for that damn ant. There was no sign of one. I took the ant as an omen. I do eat escargot but they are usually cooked. :P

OMG - so I have to admit I wasn't too sure about the slug story, so I googled it and found out that raw slugs and snails are common hosts to something called "rat lungworm" and it can cause brain damage or death!!! Crazy!

@Bonnie - Yep. My stomach is definitely turning right now....I read this just in time for dinner. :(

I guess the worst thing I've found in my food was a huge piece of soggy cardboard in my quesadilla from Taco Bueno. I bit down onto it & I was like WTF is that? That's not as bad, thank goodness, as some of these other stories. YUCK!

I agree Bonnie but a funny story, i was about 8 and my friend opened her lunch box in school.Only to find a caterpillar. It was the talk of the day.My friend was like i don't care i just want my food lol..the teacher had to get her mom to come back with a new lunch. They couldn't think how the caterpillar could of got in it without anyone seeing it.Small hairy thing so gross. We all got to have a look, the teachers thought it was great and some of the kids.:-)

Not to scare you Ashley, but if you had eaten it, it could have been deadly. I saw a TV show on it once. (So, take it with a grain of salt, I suppose) Someone ate a slug in their salad and got brain worms from it and died. :(

I rarely eat salads I didn't make, for that very reason.

[deleted account]

I was pregnant and eating a salad while out with my partner.Just about to eat a mouth full of salad and i spot a slug.I was asked if i wanted another one(salad) as if it was normal to have slugs in there food.It was a good and popluar restaurant..i was to busy hyper ventilating& trying to not get sick.I swear others thought i was in labour. It was a big nasty slug.

I couldn't speak, so my partner said just the money back please.I nearly passed out.I have a weak tummy for that shit.I can't imagine what that woman thought a condom of all things so gross.

The only thing I can think of off hand was the gigantic blue vein in my Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. I wrapped it in saran wrap and taped it to the letter that I sent them asking what it was (I was 18 and clueless - I didn't know it was a vein). They informed me that it was a vein and apologized and sent me some free food LOL!

oh, i forgot, we ordered from a mexican restaurant once. and in chad's chimichanga was a huge piece of hard plastic. it was at least the size of the bottom of a pop bottle. how the fuck do they miss these things?

[deleted account]

We got used to finding my moms hair in our food growing up, she seems to have got better at not losing her hair in our food now (either that or my bald dad cooks more lol).

The worst thing I have found in my food was a piece of plastic in my beans...it sounds as though I am lucky though.

i was eating a little debbie blueberry muffin. had it halfway gone, broke the last half in half, and brought it to my mouth and saw a ladybug crawling around on the other half of the muffin. it was december, at the moment it was almost 30 below outside, no chance of a lady bug being anywhere in iowa, let alone inside of a hardware store, in december, flying around at 5 am looking for muffins to land on. it had muffin on top of it, i KNOW this little fucker was IN my muffin!!!! the thing that really gets me is that blueberries are kinda crunchy, just like ladybugs, i wonder if i ate any more of them?? lol!

you should've seen me screaming, and wiping my tongue as i spit out my mouthful of muffin. it was a good laugh for my boss though, lol!

i contacted little debbie and they never responded to my email, fuckers...

I don't remember the brand (you'd think that would stick with you - I'm hoping they're out of business), but it was an Acme in Delaware. :P

My dad called the company to complain though, and he was informed (as I was on a later occasion when calling about bunch of rat hair in my Hormel chili) that the government allows a certain percentage of such contaminants in ALL products. The catch is, it usually isn't one roach, or one hair spread out over many products. It's a whole pile of it in one can or package. Lovely.

[deleted account]

Emily....Where do you buy a whole can of roaches?!?!?! What country, what store, what brand??? Gag!!!

Well... I found a whole bunch of meal worms in my mac and cheese once... but I went ahead and ate it, to be polite and because I didn't have the guts to announce to the rest of the Thanksgiving guests that MIL's food had worms in it. :P Yeah, I was chicken back then.

Or maybe it was the Tastycake "apple pie" I ate half of, before I discovered it wasn't apple, it was all full of dark grey fur (mold). I stood there and barfed in the sink for 2 hours after that. And now the mere sight of one of those stupid pies turns my stomach.

Now, the worst thing anyone in my family has ever found is sort of a toss up, between the dead mouse in a hot dog (My grandfather found one mouse foot sticking out after a bite, only to discover the other foot was IN his mouth. Crunch, crunch.), and the can of tomatoes that wasn't. It was strictly roaches. Full can. Packed with roaches. Like something out of a horror movie. Blech!

We've also found rat hair, cigarette butts, and used band-aids. (The last was in a salad at a restaurant. Yummy!)

Hair. We buy all our veggies fresh (OK, I find flies in the creases of the bok choy, but that doesn't gross me out- it's expected). And we don't buy processed food.

But a few years back my mother made a jelly roll and I tell ya, it reminded me of the horse-hair plaster that fills the walls of 150 year old houses. Traumatizing.
