Breast Cancer Warnings on Bras?

When you think of Brazil, you probably imagine caipirinhas, nude beaches, sexy models like Gisele Bundchen, and hot lingerie. In fact, there are no fewer than 6,000 manufacturers of said sexy bras and undies. And the Brazilian government wants to get in on the action ... in order to remind its citizens about breast cancer screening.

Last week, it was reported that the Brazilian Congress recently passed a bill requiring manufacturers to add a warning to all bra packaging about the importance of getting regular breast cancer screenings.

Somehow, it doesn't seem exactly the same as seeing warnings of an early death on packages of cigarettes. It's just kind of bizarre. If you're a Brazilian woman, you may soon be trying on a bra and seeing a government-sponsored tag that reminds you to call your gyno.

I dunno about you, but I don't really need or want to be reminded to take care of my breast health via my undergarments!

Also, this bill doesn't stop at breast cancer. The bill also aims to insert warnings into panties and men's underpants about the importance of screening for uterine and prostate cancer, respectively. And in adult women's undies, there may soon be a tag suggesting condom use. Funny, right?

I guess in some ways this shows that at least the Brazilian government is concerned about their women's health and STD prevention (which sure is more than the U.S. government can say lately!). But that doesn't make it any less awkward to contend with a government-sponsored message in your underwear. Hey, in the end, maybe it's just something to get used to.

What do you think -- is this a smooth move or totally uncalled for?

ummmmmmhmmmmmmm not such a bad idea!!

It's a good move. A lot of women probably don't get breast screened like they're supposed to.

I don't think I would care one way or another if my bras starting coming with a tag reminding me to check for lumps.
What's the harm in it?

I think it's weird, but harmless so I dont care! If it might help someone then go for it, the rest of the population will just go on as usual. But I guess who really reads their bra tags anyways? I sure don't.
