There is an excellant breastfeeding pill prescribed by Doctors, I have taken it befor while working and nursing and it worked great. Now the ? up for debate is my son is 13 months hes always been nursed on demand but lately I find myself not wanting too so much because i keep getting repeat infections. Should I take the pills to restore milk loss and continue nursing or wean? or forget the pill and try to nurse more often with hope my milk will be more plentiful? I have some just not lots and we both love that time spent just the two of us.

I would never use it unless I seriously couldn't produce without it. As it is I always had a problem producing enough so I just would pump as many times as I would feed my baby and it seemed to keep my production up enough for the baby as long as I wanted. If I wanted to back off of breastfeeding I would slowly stop pumping.

I took the pills up until my daughter was around 14 months. I went on holidays and forgot them, and my milk supply didn't change much so I just stopped taking them. So my advice would be to stop the pills, and just nurse when you feel like it. At this point, your milk supply is probably well established, so it will give him as much as he needs. I am assuming in this that he is no longer relying on your milk supply for all his nutrients, but now as a supplement to his diet? If he's still getting the majority of nutrients from nursing, weaning might be more complicated.

I would go ahead and wean. You can still have that special time with him and you can do it in other ways.

My milk had dried up after I had gotten sick (had gall bladder surgery and the surgeon screwed up and left gall stones inside me and i couldn't eat) and I was told that I should take a pill to help with getting my milk back, that made me super nervous. I don't know why, it just did. I found other ways to have my special mommy/baby time. When you have free time, roll around in the floor and play with him. Be a kid again. It worked with my daughter. She had a blast watching mama look like an idiot. lol. Play blocks with him.
