On one side, some military moms think that they should be able to feed their babies while dressed for the job, just like other moms.

On the other side, some military moms adhere to the following viewpoint:
"Airmen should be mindful of their dress and appearance and present a professional image at all times while in uniform."

For debate: should military moms BF in public in uniform?

Well if they are at work, why do they have their babies? I can't bring my baby to work with me and breastfeed at my desk. It just wouldn't be appropriate. I did wonder that at first but then, I recall seeing them in uniform when they are out and about. We have a huge military base where I live and I do think they wear their uniform when they are off duty, as well. In this instance, I cannot see any reason why they cannot breastfeed while in their attire. I do get, however, if they are working, then it kinda makes sense. Not due to image or anything but because they are WORKING. ;)

You know what? This is promotion for her book. Not that I disagree with her, she should be able to breastfeed her baby, but honestly? It is an article lacking in journalism and totally focused on sensational impact, which is evident by the wording, the photographs AND the fact that she is selling a book.....

This is a situation where a few people criticised her. My bet is, those same people probably would have criticised her regardless of the uniform.

Call me a cynic.

But, what does it MEAN by "in public"? I didn't just read the headline. The article SAYS they were on lunch break ON base.

Maybe they have a daycare on site and they do it during breaks? That would sound pretty typical to me.

I don't know. Should a military mum hand her kid a sandwich in public in uniform? I fail to see how breastfeeding is any less "professional".

Yes. Who cares. I wouldn't care if someone in a business meeting wanted to feed either or in parliament.

But the OP says "in public".

They're typically not in public while on their breaks and seeing their children at Daycare. As you said, that would be onsite.

I think the issue is because when they are in uniform they are on duty (at work). It's more like you bringing the baby to a business meeting and BFing there. I think the military has gotten more lax about soldiers wearing the uniform while not on duty though.

This is just for debate - I don't care that military moms feed their babies in uniform.

I fail to see why they would be considered any different than any other mom. Honestly, I think it is silly, to say they shouldn't be able to breastfeed while in uniform. Pffftt.
