I fucking hate this Conservative government so much. I want to slap several million Canadians upside the head for giving these people more power. This is MEDICINE to them and they are not being granted acceptable access to it, that's why we allowed personal growers in the first place. This needs to go the Supreme Court.

Stop Harper!

I think its rediculous for ANYONE to get hung up on a stupid stigma like "Legality"
What makes things illegal? a law, put in place b/c someone thought something was a threat... In the case of Marijuana its that the law was put in place before people even knew anything about the plant. Opiates are semi-legal but are incredibly addictive and hard on your system.
Once you remove your imposed stigma (that most people have been brainwashed into believing) you are left with a substance that over all does FAR more good than harm. Big brother told you it was bad, so it must be bad. same goes the other way... they tell you its all safe (RX drugs, GMO's etc) but really its killing everyone, causing cancer and plundering our land. People need to learn to think for them selves, do research and come to their own conclusions.

I agree with Jenny. It pisses me off to no end that this was not an election issue. If this had been an election issue, if Harper's regime had announced their sweeping proposed changes to the Medical marijuana laws prior to the election, I seriously doubt they would have had the support they had.
I know many conservatives who are pissed off at this. They are mad because they have a legal fucking prescription for medicine that they jumped through burning hoops to get. One person I know had to prove that all other "acceptable treatment options had been exhausted" meaning she had to undergo countless rounds with different pain killers, often leaving her sick to her stomach, unable to eat or lethargic and drugged up. She finally after 3 years got her PRESCRIPTION. (caps intended to emphasize that this is legal in Canada and doctors do give out legal prescriptions to patients.)
Her drug plan does not cover the cost of the health canada supplied weed, which she finds makes her head feel really woozy and fuzzy. She then applied to grow her own, even bought seeds from Health Canada and now can afford her medicine, never runs out and is living with less pain related nausea and less pain than she has in a long long time.
Oh yeah, one of the meds they made her try gave her a bleeding ulcer and put her in the hospital for a week or so.
Another raised her blood pressure, leading to an ER. visit.
Anyhow, the government is messed up on this one. Seriously messed up. And what worries me more is the implication that from now on, the new system will line the pockets of "those already in the medicine business" as one article I read quoted officials as saying. This is Pharma.
So they can't patent it, but they can offer big contracts to big Pharma to grow it for them, they sell it to you, and big pharma makes more profit off of sick people, often sick poor people.
nice.
Those back door lobbyists at work again...

Well, I have to agree with Jenny. It's disgusting. Perhaps I should have posted this in PDM, rather than here?

Kayleigh - I'm not a medical marijuana user and I agree wth you 100% (though I do know medical marijuana users and I see first hand how much it helps them).

I think people that NEED it should be allowed to have it. I would much prefer to "take" something that GOD made than to take the crap that man made that has 1973834658723654 side effects for one simple problem. the government doesn't want to allow it because that would mean something that didn't cause other problems to require more medications for them to make more money

Speaking as someone with a longterm pain problem and am currently on morphine (which I loathe but it works), I feel for anyone who finds a fix for their pain but are unable to acquire it.

Jenny, you and me both. I know a few conservatives that I went to HS with. They were leaping with joy because "their guy" got in. There guy was not Harper and they don't even agree with Harper - yet they voted conservative anyway not realizing what their vote was really doing. I had the exact same education, I have no idea how people are so damn --- well I can't say what I want to say.

As for this. Right, way to go. Awesome possum. "So many licenses floating around" my arse! It is not easy to get a license and if they can not keep track of the ones that are out there - guess who's fault that is. It's not the patients that's for sure!

Medical Marijuana has proven benefits but hey, let's stop up that well a bit more because we can't get people to do their jobs (supposedly)!

Jenny you can debate it. I don't have a problem with that. I just happen not to agree. I don't agree with the legality of it at all. So I am glad they are putting far stricter ways to obtain it and I am very glad they are stopping individuals from being able to grow it. This in my opinion is a very good thing. You can't manufacture your own prescription medication without going to jail and you shouldn't be able to grow prescription marijuana either, it should be only given to you by a certain amt. by a licensed dtr.

Sherri, it's a debate board. If I disagree, and am interested in the topic, I will debate it.

The OP is about something happening in Canada so I assumed you were commenting on the topic and not just in general.

Jenny she asked my thoughts I gave them. Sorry if you don't agree. I don't live in Canada and here almost every state it is very much illegal even medically.

In Canada, medical marijuana is perfectly legal. You are advocating that an adult cannot access legal medicine. No intents or purposes, it IS legal.

Whether you believe in it or not, the results are well documented. And why should your belief affect the quality of life of other adults?

Sorry don't believe in medical marijuana there are other legal avenues they can take instead of resorting to something that for all intents and purposes is illegal.

Why is depriving sick people of medicine great? That's a bit sadistic, don't you think?
