Chaz Bono: On Dancing With the Stars

I don’t know if he can dance. I can’t and would never appear in public, all cameras on, me as I made an the effort.

Genetically he has a better shot then I of having inherited a dancing gene, but it is also true that talent can sometimes skip a generation

He’s got guts, and I give points for that.

He has had death threats too and people picketing and people protesting and people sending hate mail. People are saying they will not be able to allow their children to watch. Well, why would your kids watch reality TV to begin with? But, okay, I am sure there are many things you deem inappropriate; this show might be one you don’t tune in for. Maybe you will do a family game night instead.

I applaud the station for sticking with their decision and not backing down to the haters.

Does anyone remember the controversy created when people of different races first danced together?

Lightening didn’t strike us all down then and I doubt it will now, unless he really really sucks as a dancer.

I am basically too shy, so wouldn’t do such a thing as this, but will for the first time actually watch the show and track his progress.

I don't understand the controversy at all. Chaz Bono is a man, being paired with a female partner on a dancing show. So what if he was born into a female body? It's a dancing show. Chaz's birth sex should be utterly irrelevant.

My daughter caught part of the fuss on TV and asked why people were so upset with him.

I told her that he had been born in a woman's body, which made life challenging cause he is a man.

She didn't have to think about it long to understand she would not be happy if she were in a boys body.

I exlained how doctors can do operations to help the brain and body match.

She said, like if you are born ears that don't work they can put that thing in to help ....

Yah, kids get this. It is not rocket science

Did you know there are over 6 genders? In this culture (uptightwhite) we label two with ease, and one trans, with less ease. But, in many cultures around the world, there are many understood genders ... cool

I just plain don't get it. People get their knickers in a twist about the strangest things. He doesn't look like a lady. Probably if you were that worried about your kids possibly being exposed to the terrible threat that is Chaz Bono (lulz), they wouldn't even know he was different from any other guy on there.

I'm left wondering how a child would know who he is unless they were told by a parent? Isn't his change old news? I mean, I didn't know what the fuss was about at first. I don't watch TV, and don't do celebrity gossip, but I still don't see how this affects me or my family. My children don't even know there is such a thing as a sex change. None of my children seem to have gender issues, so why would they? My teens do know, but I still see no issue. Watching Chaz dance is worse than some of the songs? What about American Idol? The songs and singers are questionable! What about all the other crazy shows? Two and a half men is so great for kids!! LOL Here's an idea, turn off the boob tube if you don't like it's message. They maybe putting it out there, but you are the one bringing it into your home!

Yeah, what Jennifer said. It's not like he still looks like a woman, so unless you tell your kids he used to be a woman, how are they even going to know? Unless they're old enough to have heard the news stories, in which case, you should be past that issue by now! It's a ridiculous thing to be picketing and sending death threats over!

Eh, my daughter already knows her BD has lesbian aunts and understands the concept (as well as a 1st grader can). But I don't think she's going to come out and ask me about transgender people.

Oh and the show premiers the 19th of September

"I'm left wondering how a child would know who he is unless they were told by a parent?"

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. After my first thought being "big deal".

And even if the kids did know, how hard is it to tell a kid (and we are talking a kid old enough for it to even occur to them to ASK the question) the truth in a way they understand? It's not rocket science, and I see nothing in the least to be bothered about. Far out, my kids saw a couple of females kissing on the street yesterday, and barely blinked an eye, other than to talk about how it is okay for girls to love other girls instead of a boy, just as it is okay for boys to love other boys instead of a girl. It's just another fact of life, and the sooner we all pull the prude stick out of our backsides and accept it, the better IMO.

Well, my daughter and I watch it together. Aside from a half hour of preschool tv a couple times a week, it's the only thing we really watch. She loves dancing. Last season was our first, and aside from one profane outburst, I did not see anything that I thought was inappropriate for any age. I guess if you're one of those people that thinks dancing is like sex standing up, then it's probably not the show for you and I'd doubt Chaz Bono's appearance would change that. For us, I hope he can dance, although he doesn't appear to have the physique, sex change or not. It won't change my viewing habits at all. We cheer for the best dance and that's it. Not interested in any made up drama. As for those sending hate mail and threats, they are very pitiful small little bigots and we should pay them no mind.

Pathetic. Who cares if Chaz is a man now but born female? DWTS is only trying to nab more gawkers. So is Chaz, but for a completely different reason. I didn't hear any fuss over the Playboy bunny. Ridiculous.

Jaime - posted on 09/04/2011

I had no idea there was so much controversy over Chaz Bono competing on DWTS. It really doesn't make any sense. Chaz is a man being paired with a female dance partner...there's really nothing to argue or protest.

Ugh! Who cares. People are idiots.

Out of curiosity, when does the new season start? Can't wait!

I agree with Gina, the show probably started this for some free publicity.

I don't understand the big deal, most kids don't even who he is. When I first saw this, my first thought was that the show started this just for the ratings, they knew groups will make a stink about it. Me? I have one question, I want to watch him dance so.. 'Can he dance'?

Stifler's - posted on 09/04/2011

Why are people picketing against him? He had a sex change, big fucking deal. He sounds like a nice guy and I'd watch it and let my kids watch it. He doesn't even look like a chick and pretty much wasn't even famous as Chastity Bono.

Jane - posted on 09/03/2011

Maybe he will lose some weight. That should make him healthier.

I remember the first interracial kiss on TV, William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols on Star Trek.

I also don't understand what all the controversy is about. He is a man who will be dancing with a woman.

Rosie - posted on 09/03/2011

i don't get the controversy. so what if people view him as a woman? does that mean "she" (in their minds) shouldn't be able to dance on the show? would they even want him on the show if he danced with a male as a "woman"? it's fucking ridiculous.
transgender people i do admit i am uncomfortable around. i understand completely everything that is going on with them-it's just something that is odd to me, but that doesn't mean i don't understand what is going on and believe people who were born in the wrong body should be able to live their lives as they see fit.
i hate that i see it odd, hopefully seeing chaz will make it more "normal" to me. :)

I watch Japanese cartoons with my 6 year old which involve everything from Twincest (you have to watch Ouran High School Host Club to understand the entire concept. The characters are identical twins who pretend to have some type of relationship, but they don't really have one it's just 'a service the host club provides') to cross dressing and guys who are stuck in armor (Gotta love FMA) She also knows about same sex couples and what it means. Heck she even knows that she can get married to another woman here in Canada and her step dad and I would be perfectly fine with it. She's also tried that on her Barbies.

That said, I doubt most kids around my daughter's age or older would willingly watch Dancing With the Stars. The ones that do are old enough to comprehend sex changes. Or should be. Or won't even know the difference because he does look like he was born that way.

I have a male friend who is starting to go through the process of becoming a woman, so I'll probably have questions from that anyway. Well... if I go to QC I will.

To all the haters, seriously get a damn hobby!
