i'm a member of a group on fb called the thinking atheist. i saw that apparantly on some other atheist fb page, a christian woman was trolling, and being completely beligerant, making remarks that she was a nurse, and she laughs at atheists dying cause they're pathetic and going to hell, etc. well, some of the people involved in the debate called her employer and got her fired.

do you think it was taken to far? should a simple internet discussion claim someones job? is it a violation of free speech? or did the woman get what she deserved? would you want her taking care of you? here's some of her posts-of course it doesn't give what other people said to her-and i dont' know what was said.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=...

She made public comments stating negative things about her patients.

That's it in a nutshell. If it was an atheist nurse saying things like that about Christian patients, I would hope she would be fired as well. The fact of the matter is that this nurse was grossly unprofessional, and obviously has about as much common sense as what you'd find in your average bedpan.

Folks have been warned again and again: if you wouldn't say it to your boss' face, then by God, do NOT put it on Facebook. And she was fired because her words would make folks not want to have her treat them, which would then reflect on her employer. She was also fired for having bad judgement, again not a trait that rates highly in the nursing profession.

It is one thing to speak in a closed room with friends who agree with you. It is quite another to post it on the internet for all the world to see.

That woman was just plain stupid and may not have been a very good nurse anyway.

I wouldn't want someone like this working for my company (if I had one). It doesn't matter if she was in a nursing or marketing position. Publicly stating that you laugh at ANYONE dying is unacceptable. I think that's one of the stupidest thing anyone in a marketing position has done. She deserved to lose her job. She could have lost a lot of business for that company.

Nope I don't feel sorry for her at all, she was using hate speech against a group laughing at their deaths.

It also worries me that a woman in a position of care for people of all groups feels so much hate, how do you know it doesnt affect her judgment at work, she could slack off in care for atheists, she could not care at all, worse her lack of care could kill them.

She has no place in a hospital.

Laughing at anyone dying is not at all the attitude a Christian should have.

And posting about it on Facebook when you are a nurse is just plain idiotic. Really, people should know better than to post things about their jobs that put themselves or their employers in a bad light. I don't think her employer was wrong to fire her. She was showing a lack of empathy and compassion, qualities that are important for nurses to, at the very least, pretend to have!

I am an atheist and would be very uncomfortable if she was my nurse. People in the medical industry shouldn't have bias towards their patients, because consequences can be drastic.

I warn my college students all the time about the content on their Facebook pages...this just sounds like pure stupidity.

Fuck, that's almost worse. For a marketing person to have absolutely no sense of public perception?

Nice.

And I'm not surprised that she's no longer a nurse. She probably got canned from that too, for being such a hateful whackadoodle. And Loureen's right -- it wouldn't shock me if she slacked off on care when dealing with atheists, or deliberately took steps to increase their suffering.

I don't often use the "c" word when referring to another woman, but man oh man...she would qualify.

Oh, according to your link, she wasn't working as a nurse. She was working in the marketing department.

Sam - Again, She WAS NOT employed as a nurse at this company. She was in the marketing department. She was speaking of personal experiences from her previous employment as a nurse in long term care facilities.

If you're going to troll, don't use your real name, woman!

I wouldn't want her as a nurse not because she'd be laughing at my dying atheist ass, but because she sounds too stupid to be a nurse.

(Did someone hack into her account? Was it her 12yo kid or something? It just sounds so idiotic.)

Nope I will not defend her. I have had it drilled into my head for years; If you're not willing to say it in RL - do NOT say it on the internet. Especially in a public forum, wow. A private discussion would have had wiggle room - this doesn't.

Especially when she tells them to go ahead and tell her boss!! WTH!! Obviously the other side of the conversation is missing but still - I swear people get dumber all the time. I really do.

And that IS something I say in RL, a lot. =/

I'm a Christian and I'm glad she got fired for that nonsense. A woman like that does not need to be involved in any career that deals w/ human beings.

Of course, though, there will be those who will take this and shriek about how it's just further "proof" of how Christians are being persecuted...sigh.

You know what... she's a nurse. There's a code of ethics for nurses just like doctors. Laughing at anyone dying...? I wouldn't like to be her patient.

I completely agree with Jane's comments. She made public comments stating negative things about her patients. Comments that would be upsetting to those utilizing her employer's services. I would not want a person who behaved in this way to be responsible for the care of my loved ones, whether they are believers or not. She seems like a twit.

[deleted account]

She laughs at dying atheists? Thinks they're pathetic and going to hell? Not a very Christian attitude is it?
