I couldn't drink coffee in either pregnancy. It totally repulsed me. As soon as the kids were out it went away, it was the weirdest thing.

That's how I knew I'd conceived my second, I went to get a cup at work in the morning took one whif and went "Looks like I'm knocked up". Peed on the stick that afternoon and it changed before I put it on the counter. I wasn't even due for my period yet, I had just removed my IUD a few weeks previous.

I generally drink caffeinated, if at all. Some decaf processes use formaldehyde, which is not something I want to be consuming, so you have to watch that if you drink decaf.

[deleted account]

The decaffeinating process kills the antioxidants in the coffee. Regular coffee is great for you in moderation.
I prefer tea personally.

Amounts of caffeine are in cocoa, its not as much, but it has caffeine. Theobromine is also present, a caffeine like substance. So while it may not contain as much caffeine, it still contains stimulants. Excessive amounts of theobromine can poison you. Both are alright in moderation.

Sounds about right, Jenn :) Pots... I dont even know - when one runs out, we make another right away - and we dont count, or mark it down.... We like Maxwell's or Kafe Karuba (Kwik Trip brand ;)

......and what is this 'decaf' thing of which you speak?

I dont know - but Id rather be addicted to my excessive coffee drinking, than to be an alchoholic or druggy any day -- I love my coffee - and im bad bad bad with my creamers - I either use heavy whipping cream, ready-whip cream, or I love the International brand - Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Southern Pecan, and Chocolate Chip Brulee (none at the same time or mixed though! LOL) are my fav. flavors. Regular milk, and a sprinkle of sugar is good enough too. We drink coffee from the minute we wake, til we go to bed. My husband takes a 12 cup Karafe (coffee pitcher) to work for his 8 hr. shift of work - after drinking up to four pots of coffee before he goes to work! lol Anyways - coffee and cappucino's are my fav. frapps. are good too! If i really need energy, i drink a yummy mocha drink that kicks my ass into gear.
As for those who get 'sick' from coffee/caffiene - there are just some people who are sensitive to caffiene - and there are a wide range of side-affects, from stomach upset, to headaches - etc. It could be the guarana.

Amanda cocoa contains caffine ...... is there a caffine free
cocoa ?

Sure isn't!!!
there are other things not good for you in coffee and as long as you don't drink the bottom of the cocoa you wont get as much of the caffeine as you would having a mug of coffee.
Coffee in excess (more than a cup a day) can cause liver damage and it is bad for your digestive system.
but each to their own. some love it personally of the couple times I have tried it I have gotten sick and the taste was horrible.

Actually, the only time I've allowed myself caffeine in a decade was this last fall. I was having a static migraine (brought on by doing hot yoga...don't do it if you have sinus or a history of headaches) and was desperate to get rid of it. I read that a strong cup of espresso or coffee might help. It totally did. So, I would take it again if I had the same problem but only in a medicinal way.

Its not just the antioxidants. Caffeine opens your veins and arteries. It can lower cholesterol this way, it helps prevent heart disease and contributes to a healthy bowel. Its an all natural cleanse. In moderation though, its when you have too much it causes a problem.

We don't mix, apparently.

Love coffee, when i was pregnant on my first decaf was not nice.So i gave it up.Second pregancy i had to have a coffee at my local coffee shop every now and again. It kept me going.
I find it sooo funny.I was in hospital right for 4 days before baby number two came.
I asked for coffee instead of tea. Some of the staff were like hush hush.We dont give pregnant moms coffee. Some were so rude.So i said its okay to have a smoking area for pregnant mothers but i cant have a coffee.I am also sure the meds you are putting in me are worse than coffee.Well i got my coffee each morning without asking for it lol.Now i said it nicely i didnt have a rant at them lol.

I like coffee, but I have a habit, I won't make it at home, only drink it when bought made already, so I love Tim Hortons and McDonalds coffee. So because of this, I don't get it everyday and when I do, it's only a cup or two max.

My mum can't drink coffee any more. She used to drink a LOT, but I remember about 20 years ago she had to stop because even a single cup of coffee gave her the shakes really badly. She doesn't even drink tea with caffeine in it anymore because she now also reacts to that with the shakes.

[deleted account]

i drink 12ish cups of tea a day. Only 3-5 have caffeine in them..If i drank even one coffee i'd have the jidders

I was never a coffee fan, I preferred espresso. Can't drink either anymore, because it just makes me crave a cigarette. I haven't had any caffeine in about 4 months though, since it tends to hurt Eva's tummy.

I make my cocoa with little to no sugar. Just straight up cocoa powder. The sweetness in the milk is generally enough for me. So I don't feel too bad when I get the urge for a little cup of cocoa.

I tend towards neither now, but if I must have a latte it must be decaf. I get heart palpitations if I have even one cup of regular coffee. It's quite the bummer. At least there's still tea. I can handle one cup of black tea every once in a while and the rest of the time it's rooibos.

I'm pretty sure the coffee free frappachinos at starbucks have zero caffeine. LMAO of course I order my venti, vanilla bean, double blended, w/ double shot of espresso frappachino has a bit of caffeine in it, hahahahaha!!!

[deleted account]

If you make it yourself from scratch than i can see it being as good in some ways, but not the crap you buy. Even the organic "healthy" stuff is bad for you i was going to get some one day but the sugar in it was astonishing.

No kidding. Cocoa, in and of itself, is very healthful and full of antioxidants. But most hot cocoa is loaded to the gills with sugar.

If your coffee of choice is a frappucino, then yes, a hot cocoa probably WOULD be healthier, though.

COFFEE??? I LOVE THE STUFF!! WHOEVER INVENTED COFFEE IS MY HERO AND SAVIOUR! COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT! COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!

can you tell I'm on my 4th cup today?

I wasn't a big coffee drinker until I craved it when I was pregnant with my son. I didn't drink it while I was pregnant with him. My mom had told me she heard a news story claiming excessive caffeine led to miscarriage. I didn't plan on drinking it while I was breastfeeding either but the nurse who preformed the check up on my son after we left the hospital told me it was ok. That was good enough for me! I had my MIL stop at Timmys on the way home. Bought a coffee maker later that week.

Personally, it's caffeinated or nothing. Most of the reason I drink the stuff is for the energy. What can I say? I think i'm entitled to at least one poison. :P

I decided while still living at home and watching my parents (who were addicted to coffee) react badly when they didn't get it that anything that caused people to be addicted and behave like that was probably not the best thing to consume. No coffee for me, decaf or otherwise.

The few times I've tried coffee it just made me jittery and sick to my stomach. blech

80% of the time I take it black, I prefer the starbucks, flodgers, or the Seattle’s Best brands

I like Kona Breakfast, Carmel, ♥ French Roast, like Dark bold flavors
I substitute Honey or pure Maple syrup for a sweetener, I no longer use sugar, and I never use the fake sweeteners

Don’t know which is better but I like Caffeine

I love coffee. Although I can not drink it black anymore. I always had a few cups of black coffee each day, but after I got pregnant, I needed to put some milk in it for some reason. I drink a cup or two a day now. If I drink too much, I feel funky. I used to be able to handle drinking it all day long, but now I'm getting old.... I love a good strong espresso on a Saturday morning though. It just doesn't feel like the weekend without a great coffee.

Oh, there is just NOTHING like that first sip of hot coffee in the morning -- it's like a hot shower for your brain: it wakes you up, but is soooo comfortable and soothing.

I used to take my coffee with cream and sugar when I first started drinking it. Then I switched to milk and sugar. Then just milk. Now, I drink it black. (Except for when I get Tim Horton's, because it's vile when black, so I always get a bit of milk in it.)

I'm truly addicted to coffee. A few weeks ago, I ran out (stupid hubby drank the last bit!!) so no morning coffee.......I was in the most FOUL mood ever! I thought I was going to die without a coffee. I made it to work at 9:15am and finally got a cup......oh the relief!!!!!!!!

I can't stand coffee and caffeine is not my friend. It doesn't make me have more energy or feel more awake. All it does is make me jittery and feel sick.

I do drink mocha, but my mocha powder is 99.7% caffeine free so it doesn't mess me up.

Decaf tends to still have a bit of caff in it. I'm very sensitive to it and I can't do either. Haven't had caff in over a decade and got off the roller coaster. One of the best things I ever did for myself.
