Concealed Carry License

In the United States, in most states, a person can apply for a permit to carry a firearm on their person. In three US states: Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont, no permit is required to carry a concealed firearm. Often, a person must go through and pass a gun safety course before being issued the concealed carry license.

There are also some states that do not allow a person to carry a concealed firearm and do not offer concealed carry licenses. Those states include Illinois, Wisconsin, Hawaii, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.

Information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_c...

What do you think about the average Joe Schmo out there carrying a concealed firearm somewhere on their body or in their purse? Do you think it is a 2nd amendment right for a person to bear arms or is it an overall danger to society as a whole?

I think the second Amendment guranteed freedom to bear arms in a WELL REGULATED MILITIA and that during that time, a militia was something that was sanctioned by the gov't. So, I think people have taken this "right to bear arms" thing totally overboard. There's no reason why anyone should have access to a fully automatic weapon, and that is a danger to society. I mean, just look at those shootings in Arizona a few weeks ago. Should that guy have been able to own a gun? No. There's soemthing inherent in our culture that thrives on violence, and I'm not sure what it is. If you look at other western nations, like the UK, where there are far fewer deaths by gun every year, criminals there can get guns but you rarely hear about them marching into a school and killing a bunch of people, or shooting a bunch of people on an Army base, or shooting a member of parliament.

I think the people who are actually the one's following the law and going through the process aren't the one's we need to worry about. Criminals will have a gun weather there is a law or not. I'm for it. My husband has a concealed license and a pistol.

I have grown up around guns so you can guess where I will stand. I WILL conceal and carry. Period. legally or not. No a$$hole is going to rob me or hurt my kids if we just happen to be in a bad neighborhood and get away with it. I will protect myself and my kids.

I think it's absolutely nucking futs to allow any joe schmoe to a carry a weapon concealed or not.
In Canada we can own guns, we may not carry them around with us (unless you're in the bush hunting) and in order to go shoot at a range you must first notify the authorities that you are taking your gun out of your house and where you are going and when you will be back etc.
Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people.

i hate it, and it skeeves me out to no end that any joe schmoe can get a gun in this country. look at the lady that just killed her 2 kids with a gun in florida, and the asshat that did the arizona shootings. why should these douchelords get access to guns? why do we need guns.

while i do agree that it's not the people that are applying for licenses to carry the weapon that we need to worry about, it's the criminal that is going to go in their house and STEAL their gun, or the dumbass that decides to sell his gun to his buddy who gives the gun to his buddy in return for a favor who uses it in a crime. if there were less guns around there would be less gun crime. plain and simple.

I am for it.My father taught both of us how to shoot and took us through the safety classes so we were able to carry if we wanted plus my step mom carries.I think it is our right to have that weapon if we want.

You DO realize, Deanna, that the odds are actually higher of the asshole in question overpowering you and taking your gun from you, right? So then you've got what might have been a straightforward mugging, but now the dude is seriously pissed off. And he has your gun.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to carry a weapon around of any kind... whether it be a gun or a knife. Something facing my community is the carrying of religious knives by East Indians (i'm sorry i don't know the proper name for them.) I understand that it's their faith/religion to be allowed to carry it, but I don't think that's fair at all! now anyone can say "it's my religion" and get away with carrying a weapon.

Scary ! Im glad we don't have this obsession with guns in our country , I honestly would not be comfortable living here if we did.

Ugh, i hate guns, people should NOT be able to carry them around like that. They do not belong on the streets. Especially with all the nut bars out there? Lets make them a little more dangerous..

I'm not pro or anti guns. Guns are a tool for acquiring meat. I support allowing access to them through strict regulations. I don't support a pro-gun culture and it weirds me out how to some people guns are like porn. I do not support carrying concealed weapons in the public. Keep them at home, at the range or in the bush period.

oh, my state just passed a controversial new law that makes it easier to get a permit for guns. here apparantly you can walk around with your gun hanging out, AND it's legal to carry into a bar. yep that's right, a drunk asshole in a bar where no fights happen EVER *eyeroll* can carry a loaded gun legally into the bar. i'm never ceased to be amazed at the sheer stupidity of people around me. i just don't get it.

I'm just curious but... when do you ever hear about the scenerio where someone gets robbed or attacked and manages to defuse the situation thanks to their gun?
Really, guns should be illegal other than for use of hunting. It makes it much harder for them to fall into the wrong hands.
It makes me feel much safer to know that here in Canada there aren't people walking around with guns. And if there are they can be punishable by law. But I guess Canada being a much smaller country, population-wise, our crime rates are considerably lower than the US.

I am very pro-gun coming from a hunting family but I do agree there is no need to have semi-automatics. Pistols, riffles, shotguns, etc are great and have at least one of each but I do not see the need for semi-automatics either.

Our 2nd amendment 'right' is more of a responsibility really ... to stand ready to defend our country against our enemies, not our neighbors, or our children, or our wives... and it is an AMENDMENT meaning that, even within the life time of the authors, it became clear they had not thought of everything, had not foreseen all situations and that the constitution would have to be a living document; ever growing with our understanding, with our knowledge, and with our nation.
We have long out grown the need for each man to own a musket and never did the authors conceive of Joe Schmo's sporting semi automatics.
Also, one really does not need to have a license to carry a fire arm .... just to carry one legally.

Sarah I agree with you, guns should not be allowed at all. It's asking for trouble.

I agree with Laura. Typically, the people who are lawfully in possession of a firearm are not the one's you need to worry about. You need to worry about the illegal weapons. I live in a state with lifetime carrier permits, and I think it's great. We tend to be very pro-gun here.

As an anti-gun Brit, I would say it's a HUGE danger to society!

I think it's crazy.
