Conversion Therapy

I saw this topic in another community but thought it might get a good response over here.

How do you feel about it?
Do you think it works?
Do you think it should be banned?
Do you think banning it would violate constitutional rights?

This is an article about former "conversion patients" and their experiences. It also dicusses the lawsuits stemming from this practice.

This is an article from a writer who went under cover with a conversion therapist in the UK and came to many of the same conclusions as found in the studies here in the US.

Conversion Therapy is harmful for both teens and adults. It is degrading, causes more feelings of self loathing, accuses homosexual tendecies on controlling relationship with mother, lacking relationship with father and/or being sexually abused as a child. "Therapists" have gone as far as trying to force memories of sexual abuse that never occured into teens' and adults' memories.

Obviously, my opinion is that this so called therapy should be bannned in every state on every level for teens and adults alike, especially since homosexuality has been removed as a psychological or mental disorder.

I'm totally opposed to conversion therapy for sexuality. Those who engage in this practice should be tried as criminals for abuse.

However, I would totally support utilizing conversion therapy for those who believe that homosexuality is somehow a disorder, sin, or aberration. It should work on these people, since they are NOT born this way - their hatred, fear, and bigotry are learned behaviors.

I'm sorry you and your daughter had such bad experiences with your friendships. That's terrible. For the most part, people have become more accepting of the gay community, I think. Unfortunately, as with all minorities, there will always be bigots. I think Conversion Therapy is probably THE WORST form of bigotry and violation of civil rights that I've seen in my life time.

Conversion therapy is a range treatments that aim to change sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual which has condemned by the American Psychiatric Association . We have seen more and more gay and lesbian people around. They look the same and act the same to us.
What they do in their private home is their business. Live and let live. One thing I don’t like the homosexual concepts is the name calling. It makes the same gender friendship hard. When I was in college, I have so many good girl friends without being called lesbians. Now the days, my daughter helped this girl a few days. People look her funny. Some even yelled at her. Her boyfriend at the time went with her everywhere to protect her until that girl got better and left. Now, everything is quiet about the whole thing.
