Dr. Robert Brewer in his book advocates a high protein diet to prevent and treat toxemia. He has documented cases of reversing it by having the woman consume 200 mg of protein per day. Does anyone else have a doctor who is aware of this?

I have a really hard time believing that, especially if the toxemia is the result of another problem. In the course of my research on placental insufficieny I discovered that toxemia is a pretty common result (makes sense since you have all this excess blood volume but it can't get through the placenta). All the protein in the world isn't going to stop that unless it can miraculously cure the placenta.

The 200 mg is only for someone who is starting to experience symptoms of toxemia. After a couple of days of this much protein, the toxemia symptoms go away--the blood pressure goes back to normal, the fluid retention decreases, and the headache goes away.

I know for a fact that I could never consume that much without making myself ill. Well, I suppose I could just load up a smoothie with masses of protein powder but that seems ridiculous.

My midwife suggested 100g for my second pregnancy. I personally have a hard time meeting that, so I didn't go out of my way to force it. And I was already 25 weeks by the time I first saw her. Did you mean he's recommending 200 grams? That's an insane amount.
