Do you know your kids?

ok, so i was at the beach the other day, and there was a kid around my oldest sons age i'd say 10, and he has the biggest twerp i've come across in a loooooong time. every word out of his mouth was mother f?*ucking p%ssy whores, this and bitches, and hoes that. i was disgusted and appalled.

so i was telling my friend about this kid, and she said something to the effect that grant (my son) probably is like that when i'm not around. i told her i didn't think so, and she told me i was being naive to think that.

i feel like i know my child pretty well, and if he were like that at all i would've seen some glimpse of it at home. he doesn't swear, and he has trouble saying weiner without laughing. i don't doubt that he says weiner, and other things similar to that, but the whole vibe i got from this kid, is NOT my son.

basically, for you moms of older children. have your children done things that you didn't expect, and did they give you any signs? i'm getting nervous about teen years, and my friends statement didn't help much!!

My kids are class clowns...but I suppose that's not too much of a surprise...since we're all a bunch of smartasses in this family.

i think that's the problem sara, lol! everything his teacher has said about him is that he's a wonderful little kid, NO problems at all with meanness or rudeness (hyperness yes, rude, no). my kids are always better away from me than with me, lol! vinnies preschool teacher said he always shares and is a pure joy to have in class. i asked if she was sure she knew which child was mine, lmao!!

but trust me if his teachers ever did say anything like that i would definitely not be in denial. i don't know, maybe i am naive, lol!!

i'm completely freaked out about teen years and him all of a sudden turning into a little shit head like that kid! sigh..

I agree that kids act differently around other people. If Grant's teachers haven't mentioned anything to you, then I wouldn't be terribly worried. But please don't be the parent that makes excuses for your kid or flat out denies that your kid is capable of bad behavior if a teacher should ever mention something. I don't know of any teacher that has ever made something up to get a kid in trouble. It's usually toned down by the time they talk to the parent! If teachers or other parents haven't said anything, I'm sure Grant is fine!

Hee hee... my kids are BETTER behaved around others! Of course they are still fairly young (7.5, 2.5, and 16 months) so they may grow out of it... LOL

My girls at 8.5 probably aren't exactly 'older kids' yet, but they ARE about to start 4th grade in a month....

They are much better behaved for any of their teachers than they are for me. As far as w/ friends goes... they act the same for them as they do for each other... for the most part.

No 'surprises' yet, but I'm definitely in fear for the teen years.

I agree with Loureen & Sharon! Kids are so different away from their parents. I've heard this over and over and over again after 14 years of teaching and describing behaviors to parents who are shocked, appalled and down right in denial of their child's behavior when they are at school. It doesn't shock me one bit, and even when my son's preschool teacher told me about things he did at school, I had to raise my eyebrow. I mean, I already know he is far from being a perfect angel! I fully admit that!

I agree with Loureen.

My oldest was VERY different school than he was at home. The other two, I always get reports that tell me they are the exact same child at school as at home.

HOWEVER, my younger son, when he is alone with his friends is a different child! :: sigh :: complicated little turds aren't they?

Working as a teacher and babysitting those same kids at night for extra cash i tell you they are one person at school and a complete different person at home !!

I was amazed at the difference of personality and they were 5 year olds !
