Does anyone do dream interpretation?

I don’t know much about dreams, save I have had a reoccurring nightmare for as many years as I can remember.

The theme is always spiders, small spiders, huge bright colorful spiders, running, just standing there …. Usually they are crawling.

In my dream I am never frightened of them, but am always woken by something in my environment that I think is a spider crawling on me. Last night my cat woke me.

Some aspects of the dream change. Last night the spiders were crawling over a pizza. In real life, I don’t eat pizza. They were also crawling through an art sculpture I was holding.

And, again, in my dream, I was not frightened, but felt too creeped out when I woke up to go back to sleep.

Maybe I was killed by spiders in a past life? Maybe spiders crawling mean I am about to win the lottery?

I have looked up the meaning of spiders in dreams, but didn’t find an answer that felt right. Though I like the lottery idea.

Anyone else have reoccurring dreams? Or know what spiders mean?

If you aren't scared of the spiders in your dreams, don't give them merit in your day to day life based on how you normally feel about them. Your dreams are trying to tell you something and it can be confusing trying to interpret them. What I have found the most helpful to me is to just think about what the dream feels like. If you aren't frightened, how else do you feel?

How do the colors make you feel?

How do the amount of spiders make you feel?

Are you curious? In awe? Passive?

Once you get a general understanding of how these things connect to your emotions, if you look around your day to day life you can usually connect it to something that may be totally unrelated. Like feeling overwhelmed, or different than others. It could be anything really, but usually the best interpretation is going to come from you. You can dig into your own feelings deeper than any of us :)

Very true Nichole,
During the last 4 years of my marriage I had a recurring dream of being trapped in a car that had gone over the edge of a cliff or off a bridge etc. and ended up in water, usually breaking through ice first.I would always wake up just as I'm panicking and trying to get myself out, sometimes the kids were with me, and those were the most terrifying, I would wake up panicked and feeling trapped.
Which is how I felt day to day in my marriage to my ex. for many reasons, but after I left him it took about 2 months of living away from him and the dreams stopped after having them almost every night for so long.

Think about the spider for a minute....whenever people see a spider they stop whatever they are doing at that moment. Suddenly you realize that you are "not welcome" in this specific territory!" From the way it sounds to me....possibly there is a place or home that you go to and for some reason you do not feel very welcome there....and in your sub-conscience mind you are struggling with the fact that you don't wanna go there anymore...............

I have a recurring dream about toothbrushes dancing through the trees at my old elementary school. I've been having this dream, since the second grade. I do a lot of dream interpretation and sometimes I find that a dream is just that.... a dream. Though often recurring dreams do have some kind of meaning. I also have a recurring nightmare about an evil water sprite trying to kill me...

I haven't read all the posts but I think Jackie-Rae is right, you may be trying to decipher the wrong part of the dream. Research the meanings of everything that stands out to you in the dream, even if you only seem to notice it for a single second. You might just be able to piece it together in the end.

I wish I could be more help, but so far I'm only good a interpreting dreams for people I know very personally. Also bear in mind that just because it's a nightmare, it doesn't necessarily mean that the message is going to be bad, so keep your mind open for positive interpretations too. Good luck. =)

Hi moms,

Each dream is a mixture of our biological instincts, our cultural assumptions and our own personal experience. As we dream, our brains create stories from these ingredients sometimes to replay recent events, and at times voice concerns that our waking minds are not yet ready to face...

I use this site to interpret my dreams: http://www.dreamrevealer.com

Dreams are a part of the subconscience mind and must be thought about seriously : )

I have very strange dreams, although as a child I did have one recurring nightmare, where I was stuck in a haunted house, and the only things that would ever change in the dream was that near the door, there were coat hooks, and my new winter coat of the year would be hanging there. I also had a dream recently that I was standing on a hill with a bunch of people and we saw a planet fly by the earth. We were all mesmerized, when suddenly this planet turned around and then turned into a giant pacman and took a big bite out of the hill and the people on it. :/

Dreams seem to be a reflection of our "sub-conscience" mind...from my own personal experience...I had a dream 6 yrs before my husband at that time had an affair....The dream showed a cab driver, woman in the middle with long hair (didnt show a face) and my ex husband in front...I was in the back seat tending to the 3 children and telling them I am here for you....everything's gonna be alright...Momma is here and so on........ six (6) years later my husband of 19 years and 3 children became infatuated with going into chatrooms on the internet....and met a bi-sexual woman who fullfilled his manly fantasy...."Allowed him to have 2 women in bed at the same time!" SoOOooooo with that being said I would like to say..."Pay close attention" to what's in your dreams!" I truly believe that God speaks to us in that "Still Small Voice" as warnings for what is to come............ :-)

I guess I would have never taken it that far, as dreams have current relevent meanings to me, so I wouldn't have gone there. I'd be trying to find out why I was being attacked, what it meant in my life and how to fix it so they would go away

Rebecca - cats are said to be associated to our own femininity and if you are fearful of cats that are attacking you, it sounds you are struggling with your womanhood.

What aspects in your life can you relate to this? Are you really scared of showing feminine aspects of yourself? Do you struggle with this in your day to day life? Are you drowning in a house full of men? lol :)

I think some of the violent or "being stuck" dreams relate to our own realities.

***Edit to add: being, choked, drowning, being trapped, etc.....

We had a two significant aftershocks last night and I had a dream that I had snuck back in to my old workplace to retrieve my personal belongings only to get out and get caught in a shoot out in a school playground (Which actually happened in another city yesterday)

To see a spider in your dream, indicates that you are feeling like an outsider in some situation. Or perhaps you want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation. The spider is also symbolic of feminine power or an overbearing mother figure in your life. Alternatively, a spider refers to a powerful force protecting you against your self-destructive behavior. If you kill a spider in your dream, then it symbolizes misfortune and bad luck.

To see a spider spinning a web in your dream, signifies that you will be rewarded for your hard work. You will be promoted in your job or recognized for your achievement in a difficult task. Spiders are also a symbol of creativity due to the intricate webs they spin. On a negative note, spiders may indicate a feeling of being entangled or trapped in a sticky or clingy relationship. It represents some ensnaring and controlling force. You feel that someone or some situation is sucking the life right out of you. Alternatively, if a spider is spinning a web in your dream, then it could be a metaphor for the world wide web and global communication.

To see a spider climbing up a wall in your dream, denotes that your desires will be soon be realized.

To dream that you are bitten by a spider, represents a conflict with your mother or some dominant female figure in your life. The dream may be a metaphor for a devouring mother or the feminine power to possess and entrap. Perhaps you are feeling trapped by some relationship.

To eat a spider or dream that a spider is in your mouth, symbolizes your control over a situation. You are not afraid to exert your dominance in a relationship.

Lacye ... if anything happens to them, do delete that post :)

Thanks all .... I think spiders are neat, though would be in fear if, in real life, that many were crawling around me. Some of them are huge. So many have such bright colors. But, I have been having such dreams since I was a small child.

Cats, I always dream cats are trying to attack me. I'm allergic to cats, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Or you could use my father's explanation about dreams - they are all just "brain garbage".

I think you're trying to interpret the wrong thing in the dream. The spider is just your minds manifestation of something else that is bothering you or whatever. You KNOW that you are fearful of spiders so that's what comes to you in your dreams.

You need to the other things in your dreams that stand out. Like you said, the pizza. It was there and it stood out, but why? Maybe it's the shape.

FOr instance if you're dreaming of running from spiders and as you're running there's a red shoe in a window that you notice but don't pay any attention to at the time. It's that red shoe that has significance, not the spider. Hope that make since.

Sigmond Freud was a nut case but very knowledgeable

Here's an excerpt that I like a lot...

Usually, they are more consistent with Carl Jung's interpretation (also from thecrypt.ca), "a symbol of wholeness due to its circular shape. He called circular symbols 'mandalas' and said that they had valuable meaning for the dreamer. The spider and his web may be calling for an integration of the dream[er]'s personality leading to greater self-awareness and resulting in feelings of completeness. Therefore, the spider and his web may be considered profound and spiritual dream symbols which call for greater self-understanding and encourage us to derive meaning and satisfaction from the intricate framework and interplay of life." Spiders, to me, have represented a deepening of a sense of connection to the world, a physical and psychological symbol of the "string theory" of quantum mechanics. Everything is, in some way, connected.
