Extreme couponer" Jamie VanSicker resorted to breaking the law to save money it seems. Fox reported that VanSicker allegedly stole newspapers in order to save a few dollars and ended up being arrested when police were able to study video evidence that she had stolen 185 newspapers worth $231 total. Keep in mind, this is only what they could prove she had stolen so far.

In order to get the coupons out of newspapers, Springdale, Arkansas, police state that she resorted to simply stealing them. Doubling up on coupons has become a fashionable way to save money, so some addicts (read hoarders) try to grab as many as they can. It allows those people the opportunity to buy hundreds of the same products and stock up their homes with items that may never end up getting used.

It looks like this woman took her hoarding habit a bit too far though. It raises the serious question of whether she had been stealing newspapers from other locations as well, and that she simply had not been caught in the act (yet). It's not like she can be trusted to give an honest answer to that question though, especially when seeing her answer to the allegations. According to her lawyer, she didn't know it was a crime to steal newspapers.

What do you think about this case? Did she just ruin extreme couponing for everyone that does it the correct way? Should she be punished harshly if she is found guilty of all these counts of theft?

but should that include all the stuff she got free because of her theft?..I think so, she crossed the line from "saving money" to "stealing"...and not only the newspapers, all the stuff she got with those coupons is stolen too.

she should be made to pay back what she stole. she needs help. i know someone like this, they try to get illegal coupons off the internet and are always digging around trying to get extra papers. i wouldn't be surprised if they stole some as well.
i'm all for a good bargain, and coupons are awesome, but stealing for it? my husband works for the newspaper, he has access to everything. yet somehow we manage to keep our grubby little hands off of them. fucking people...

It's a serious issue, I agree. It's almost an addiction. Well it is if you want to hoard the stuff. It is if you have to steal to save money.

Isn't this the same extreme couponer who caused a big stir a few months ago because she had found some glitch and was using coupons on products other than the ones they were actually intended for? She should be punished for stealing the newspapers and for any other fraud she has committed. And TLC should make some sort of statement about her practices being fraudulent and illegal and not the proper way to save money.
Honestly, I think most of the people featured on that show have a problem. I think couponing and saving money is great, but they are buying way more stuff than they could possible use before it goes bad and it is taking over their houses and lives. That's got to be some sort of psychological issue.

Yeah, lady needs some sort of help. Didn't know it was a crime? If you are supposed to pay for it, then taking it is theft. This is kind of a duh thing, no?

Wow. I'm not surprised though. She has issues that run deeper than stealing newspapers to get her extreme couponing fix! She should of course be held responsible for her thefts but also some therapy to address WHY she felt compelled to do so. Sad, really.

I don't think she ruined it for everyone and I don't think she should be punished harshly, maybe she has a serious problem and it needs to be addressed.

She should be punished for the thefts though.
