Okay I went to watch it again and it says the video was removed due to a copyright claim by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp.

But off the top of my head remembering what the dad had said and without having seen any of the rest of the episode... that speech had the same overall tone of the speeches I got when I was a teenager. He's not saying; "get out of my house, period." He's saying; "if you want to be that way, you're not welcome here."

After my arguments with my mom like that where she would say basically the same thing regarding whatever situation I had put myself in, it was up to me to prove to mom that I was going to change and I wasn't going to continue with that behavior.

Fin could have said sorry I understand etc etc etc and it could have taken a whole different turn. The dad said he can do whatever he wants out in the world but it's not acceptable under his roof. He didn't say "now get out I don't want you here." Fin left on his own accord... maybe the rest of the show has him coming back and apologizing and things being honky dory, or the dad finding him and having that man/son talk about it being not okay but wanting him to be apart of his family... or any other scenarios........... I don't want the show so I don't know, Cathy you will have to fill us in :)

Cathy - I tend to agree with you. As I said I've never seen the show so I don't know anything about the context (what you desribed just firmed up my initial reaction though) and I did love the speech overall, I just think don't think he should have gone the final step of throwing the kid out of his home. He should have just driven home the message that that kind of behavior and use of language is hurtful and unacceptable and left it at a learning experience. If this kid was a raving homophobe, that would have been different, but I don't think that's what he was dealing with here. I think he should have given him a chance to learn & move on.

I think it's awesome. But, speaking as a parent, I think he could have handled it a little bit better. But it makes for great TV. And all the homophobes can kiss my and Fox's butt. :P

The only thing that I would change about what he said is the part where he said "out in the world you do what you want." I would have added to that or changed that... the rest of it, good script.

I've always enjoyed the actors roles, that I've seen anyways. He always seems to play the doofy fat lazy comedian with a good heart. It's nice seeing the good heart continuing through to another character.

I have never watched the show but I think this is a great clip. Hopefully some people were watching that needed to here that message as well.

Haha Yeah I cried when the dad was chewing him out! I think it was a huge step for the dad and I was so proud :)
