FB Baby name goes too far

When it comes to original baby names, my former neighborhood in Brooklyn was always worth a, "How do you spell that?" at least once during a mom group meet-up. I prided myself on not passing judgment. Simply smiling and repeating the baby's unusual name over and over in my head until "Neverland" just rolled off my tongue when I played This Little Piggy with the baby next to mine on the blanket. But now one couple has gone too far, and I'm officially ending my "live and let live" stance on unusual baby names. Stop it, crazy parents. Enough is enough.

An Israeli couple named their baby 'Like' after the Facebook 'Like' button. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, I am very, very, very sorry.

Lior and Vardit Adler welcomed a baby girl, and apparently someone's first instinct was to hit a 'Like' button, so they gave the baby that name. I can't figure out if it's the height of laziness or hipster-dom. Either way, going through life being named after a button on a social network, which also happens to be one of the most common words in the world, is stupid. I'm sorry, but it is.

The article on CNN said the couple was looking for a "unique" moniker. Do you know how many times in a day the average person says "like"? Well I don't either, but that poor kid will because her head will be whipping around every time someone expresses their feelings about pastries or big butts. And it's only a matter of time (this is assuming FB is still hip 13 years from now) when a kid on the playground adds "un-" in front of her name, and the world's easiest yet most damaging nickname is born.

Not cool, parents. Not even as harmless as Bear Blu. Let's just hope that little girl has a fantastic middle name.

What do you think about this baby girl's name? Like?

Please excuse me while I bang my head against the wall because of parents like these!

What happened to new parents picking up a couple of Baby Name books for ideas? There are plenty of unusual names that are real names with real meanings and origins.

I also feel people should name thier kids whatever they want...but this is going to far. I mean you have the unusual names and some are cute...but "Like"?. That poor child is going to have a rough time growing up being named after a FACEBOOK button.

I bet they think they are pretty damn clever. Nope. Not even close.
My children have different names. I put a lot of time and energy coming up with them. But at least they are real names!!!!
I think some parents should be slapped. Mind you, I find the name Like not as bad as Mariah Carey naming her twins Moroccan and Monroe so her husband can call his kids Roc And Roe.

UNbelievable. I heard about a child here that was called Abcd. Pronounced Absedee. No word of a lie. Imagine?

i have heard worse too, which is an appauling reflection on what some poeple call kiddies , but at school there was a girl in my roll call called sue likke, it was her middle name,. so maybe they inadvertedly named her a real (well nearly) name i think her family were finish (not sure it was 20 years ago) and yes she got teased about it

I think they should have named her Poke.
After all, it was "poking" that made them parents...

I think people are running out of names to name their children and they just don't know what to call their child.
