I think this is something we can all appreciate! It's giving some power back to the states, and taking steps toward more reasonable control of marijuana in the US. It ain't legal yet, but I think the new policy will help cut back on the time and money wasted on prosecuting smalltime users who aren't hurting anyone.

LOL, I didn't see this thread before I posted mine last night. Sorry. I think it rocks by the way!

Fantastic! Now medical users can stop feeling like criminals in their own country. Now for the next logical step of legalizing it. Although I'm sure we'll see decriminalization long before. I wish government didn't have to move at a snail's pace.

Quoting Mary:

It's about friggin time!! A (small) step in the right direction.

It's a small step for legislation, a giant leap for the war on the war on drugs! We can stop wasting money on jailing harmless stoners and start talking legislation for legalizing recreational use and taxing the hell out of it.

And just think- this opens doors to exploring the medical benefits of MJ more thoroughly in the US. We won't have to rely on self-reported users who may or may not have been using other substances that could affect outcomes of tests. We already know that it helps a wide variety of ailments without the adverse health effects that commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals have. Treatment for chronic pain without experiencing withdrawals or physical addiction can be possible.

As a Dem, I love big government, but I think that the war on drugs is a disgusting misplacement of power. I want federal legislation that improves lives, we can leave something as harmless as weed to the will of the states. Seriously, think of all the money that will be saved by not wasting time and resources on such inoffensive offenses.

I've been smiling all day =D
