Flag upside down?

I frequently pass a house in my neighborhood and their US flag is always upside down. First time I passed the house I thought they had simply put it up wrong, but after seeing it like that for a year it just makes me wonder?
Can anybody tell me why someone would flag upside down for a whole year?

Me too Jessica, but I don't know these people, just seen them coming or leaving every now and then. So I guess I'll never know..

That's strange, I'm curious as to why it was upside down for so long, and what made them turn it right side up??

That is weird Iris. Regardless of why, I'd say they are not people you'd want to associate with ;-P

Well, I just passed the house this morning and they have put up a new flag and it is bigger then the one they had there before, and this one is right side up.
It made me wonder because the only time I'd seen the flag upside down was when I saw a documentary about the Westboro Baptist Church crazies.

I don't think its an official tea party thing. I think it's more the crazy end of the tea party doing their own thing. All groups have their embarrassments.

"his particular group was anti-government and anti-Obama politics, pro-tea bag parties." Maybe they were some of those who are part of the sovereign citizens movement? aka Crazies.

I can't believe it's a Tea Party thing, it sounds totally disrespectful to the flag/country and that's the opposite of what they are about. But that's my opinion.

There was a big thing here on the news in Arizona about the nation being in trouble and idiots that want to take the law into their own hands. They ran a segment on flying the flag upside down. It meant, according to the news segment, that this particular group was anti-government and anti-Obama politics, pro-tea bag parties. This was probably in April/May when the tea baggers came through this part of the state to rally.

It's recognized as a distress signal. However, some will fly it upside down when they're disgruntled, which I suppose could be deemed distress, but not how it's intended.

I've heard that and I've heard the thing about being defeated by Mexico.. And now the distress signal.. I don't know what to think.

But Iris.. If you're in HI (I can't remember if you're still there or if you said you used to live there).. We found out about a lot of the locals hating America, so it's quite possible they are Anti-America.

Maybe they think the US is in distress?? Who knows. Or maybe they meant it as a distress signal at first and just forgot about it.

I thought it was like an Anti - ( whatever flag or sign ) when you put it upside down .

I know about the distress signal, but for a year?
That's why I thought there would be some other meaning behind it.

I believe it means that America is defeated as a country to Mexico.. I'll have to look it up to be sure.
