Foetus feels no pain before 24 weeks.

The human foetus feels no pain before 24 weeks, according to a major review of scientific evidence published today.

The connections in the foetal brain are not fully formed in that time, nor is the foetus conscious, according to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

The findings of two reports commissioned by the Department of Health strike a blow to those seeking to reduce the upper time limit for having an abortion, currently at 24 weeks.

Your thoughts?
Do you think it makes any difference in the abortion argument?

I didn't know this. I don't think this will change the debate or anyone's mind one way or another, however.

I'm Pro choice.
I find it hard to believe that a baby feels no pain before 24 weeks but can survive outside of the womb that early.

This has been known. It doesn't change any of my opinions, most of my opinions were already based on fetal brain function-or lack thereof.

I think a lot of people may try to use it in the abortion argument, but I don't think the issue of abortion is whether the foetus feels pain or not, I think it's more the beating heart thing. And as Joanna said, there is that vid of a foetus shrinking away from the abortion device which makes me question that the foetus is not conscious like they are saying. If it can move around that young, then it has brain waves. I find that more of an issue than whether they feel the pain. Although I am glad that they don't.
Plus, there are medical 'findings' that they discover to be false like 5 years down the track. Too risky in my opinion.

That would be a happy though, because with how clumsy I am and how many times I've bumped my belly (or tried closing in the car door, which has been a few times already), it'd be nice to know the baby couldn't feel it! lol.

But really, I don't know if it would make much of a difference as far as abortions go. Wasn't there video of a pretty young fetus floating around, where they were injecting the belly for an abortion and it was trying to get away? It kind of showed that no matter the age, they still want to survive, regardless of pain. There are humans out there with a syndrome where they cannot feel pain, but they are going to run like hell if someone tries to shoot them, they are going to fight for their lives.

With all that being said, I'm still pro-choice so it doesn't really change anything for me.
