For fun: Lestat or.....(what's his name?) Edward?

My husband is so sweet- he said he was going to get something special for my birthday. And he got me The Vampire Lestat.

If only all of you knew how happy it made me. Hahaha what a geek I am, but several years ago when we began attending THAT church I tossed out my entire collection of Anne Rice's novels. I had nearly all of them. And it broke my heart, lol.

He said it was to rebuild my collection. ♥

I hate the Twilight series. I'm a serious Vampire and Werewolf fiction fan and a few things from the books bug the hell out of me:
1. Vampires don't fucking sparkle
2. Vampires can't impregnate a woman. They're dead.
3. Werewolves CANNOT randomly transform into a wolf. That's a shape shifter and NOT true lycanthropy.
4. In the movies they don't wear shirts...why don't they wear shirts? Why don't they wander around nekkid if they're so worried about ripping clothes?

Anywho. I like Eric Northman. The man is FINE.

Edward be damned! Lestat (Tom Cruise precrazy) was awesome and sexy as hell! woo hoo!

I'm glad you are starting your collection back. I suggest that if you are into vampire books that you find J. R. Ward's series The Black Dagger Brotherhood! Those are the type of books that will make you have wet dreams for a long while after you are done reading them. *sighs* Makes me want to go drag mine out and read them again. lol

Wow, I am late on this thread (I was in Disney!) But all my favorite characters!! Oh by FAR Lestat wins way over Edward ;-) Louis over Edward, Eric over Edward, any of the Dark Hunters over Edward, any of the BDB over Edward! When I see the Twilight films I can't help to see the actor still in his Harry Potter role! I love fictional vamps- yummy :-)

The Sookie Stackhouse novels kick ass. I love them! I read the whole series in a little over a week. I don't hate the tv series but I have to keep reminding myself that it is NOT the book or I get irritated by the HUGE differences. I agree that Eric Northman is mmm....yummmy.... He is my favourite by far.

I tried JR Ward. I was bored. :( or was that LA Banks? I can't remember. Maybe I should try a different book by them. I only tried one.

All these books and talking about wet dreams makes me want to read Karen Marie Moning's highlander/time travel ones.

Movie Lestat over Movie Edward. However, the Edward in my head reading Twilight trumps them both.

I don't watch tv and never read the sookie books. so...no input on those. I keep hearing it's good, but...Eh. Not getting tv just to find out what the deal is.

Is there something wrong with playing dress up? lol. I love Halloween. No fairs around my small town. But I do have a Renaissance style dress. Tons of costumes, actually.

I read Lasher when I was younger and was just kinda pissed at the end of it that I'd have to read another huge ass book. lol. I think I was like 13 or something.

I even have stuff to dress kinda like Simi. Gotta love the sassy demon!

I did like the Twilight novels. Not on the level of Anne Rices' novels, but they kept me amused.

I hate the movies though. Bella's continual twitching makes me want to barf.

i am going with everyone that votes for Eric. i turn into a giggling, blushing, annoying school girl just thinking about Eric Northman. my husband makes fun of me to no end.

speaking of being a school girl, i'll admit that i've read and enjoyed each of the twilight novels. the writing is crappy, there are holes in the plot, and the sparkling is ridiculous but i CANNOT help it! i like em.

LOL...yes Jessica, I indeed mean the Renaissance fairs...and nope...I do NOT participate. The house I used to own there was a beautifl park....taken over by renaissance fake sword fighters. It was sad, and a riot all at the same time.

Ah stop adding to my list of books it seems to get longer by the bloody day.

Oh and I like the fact Twilight vampies sparkle I thought it was a nice twist - but then I do like all things sparkly kind of like a magpie ;-)

I'm pretty sure the Daywalkers are the new books coming out once she finishes with Nicks books, with him being the Malachi and all... not sure. Those books are amazing, and trust me for any of you, Ash....can take on anyone, lol and once you read the books, you'll understand. Zarek, Kyrian and Julian were all great to, and I adore Simi! I'm pretty sure Ive read all the Dark Hunters, Dream Hunters and Were Hunter books that she has written, SO addictive, but I'm tired and getting off base here, back tomorrow! :)

Another great series is by Jim Butcher and it's called The Dresden Files. It's all about wizards, witches, vampires, faeries...it's awesome. The way Butcher writes is addictive. He draws you in and keeps you hooked. I love his work. :)

Yeah, Lasher and Taltos are the second and the third. The Witching Hour is the first. I believe David Talbot, who is in some of the Vampire books, is also in the first book.

Hmm well I've never read Ann Rice, but I always thought Lestat from the Queen of the Damned movie was hot as hell. Edward- besides the goofy ass sparkling, I thought his character in the book was kind of asshole-ish. Very high handed and possessive, not my style. And, the actor in the movie looks too much like my brother lol.

As for Sookie Stackhouse, I enjoyed the books and liked Eric's character in the books. The actor really doesn't do much for me though!

Have you read her Mayfair Witch books (starting with The Witching Hour, I think)? When I used to read Anne Rice a lot in high school, I also thought those were a better series of books. I should reread them myself, see if they still hold up after all that time.

Personally, I don't think you can be super particular about what is a shapeshifter, a vampire or any other mythical creature. We're talking about fiction here. Every author, you hope, has their own take on the myths and legends.

It's kind of like when my fiance was watching one of the Die Hard movies and started going on and on about how there would never be that size of duct work in that kind of building. I was sitting there thinking, THAT's what you have a problem with...not the fact that Bruce Willis seems to have a super hero ability to avoid bullets or take bullets and still fight people. But, it's Die Hard, you gotta know going in to suspend belief on details because the genre calls for it.

Hahah yeah, as much as I can't stand the Twilight movies, I read all of the books, and I was going to get nit-picky too about the 'werewolves' actually being shape shifters. They made brief mention that there actually are werewolves, but they never appear in the books.

So I just got back from the library and they had four of Sherrilyn's books, but they were from a different series, the "League"? And it seemed after reading the backs that it takes place in another universe? None from Dark Hunter, unfortunately.

So I picked up Pandora and Tale of the Body Thief, to read for the umpteenth time.

Can we throw Eric, Stefan and Damon into this mix if we're gonna talk about sexy vampires?

Eric Northman on True Blood (Alexander Skarsgard)
Stefan Salvatore on Vampire Diaries (Paul Wesley)
Damon Salvatore on Vampire Diaries (Ian Somerhaulder)

*levels the playing field*

Yes, generally called dark hunter series, although there are weres and Apollites [they don't turn vampire until after 27th birthday - they can either die a horrid death or turn evil and suck souls - descendants of apollo who were cursed]. whole crew of supernatural, i guess.

not a huge fan of the website. There are good vampires - Dark Hunters - who are given the same looks/limits/senses as the bad vampires - Daimons. this way there's a balance and they can hunt them better due to instincts. Instead of sucking blood, the baddies try and suck out your soul. I don't want to go too into it. Something I say may turn you off of them and they really are a good read. My husband even read a couple of them. He said, well, cool cars, good music, cool weapons/fight scenes, hot sex...why not? lol.

Especially if you know your Greek mythology/gods. Just awesome what Kenyon did with it. I started with Kyrian's --Night Pleasures I think is the title. Kenyon ends up calling the ones that defy the sun Daywalkers, i think.??? you remember jessica?
