Georgia Republican Compares Women to Cows, Pigs, And Chickens

[deleted account] ( 25 moms have responded )

A speech from a Georgia Republican state representative surfaced last week in which he compared women seeking abortions of stillborn fetuses to cows and pigs.

State Rep. Terry England was speaking in favor of HB 954, which makes it illegal to obtain an abortion after 20 weeks even if the woman is known to be carrying a stillborn fetus or the baby is otherwise not expected to live to term.

He then recalled his time working on a farm:

“Life gives us many experiences…I’ve had the experience of delivering calves, dead and alive. Delivering pigs, dead or alive. It breaks our hearts to see those animals not make it.”

Suggesting that if a cow or pig can give birth to a dead baby, then a woman should too was not enough for Rep. England though. He then delivered an anecdote to the chamber in which a young man who was apparently opposed to legislation outlawing chicken fighting said he would give up all of his chickens if the legislature simply took away women’s right to an abortion.

Right, this is NOT a war on women.

Kelly, were I you and your friend, I would be calling a reporter, showing those letters, and making the point that this person is trying to make laws that he doesn't even UNDERSTAND, but that will run the risk of seriously endangering the lives and health of women.

Oh FFS! He's a fucking LEGISLATOR!!! If he can't figure out the repercussions of the laws that he is proposing then he should NOT BE PROPOSING LAWS.

Oh my land, what an idiot. THIS is the type of person who is trying to control your reproductive health, ladies! Vote them OUT.

All I can say ladies, is this: This November, vote those fuckers OUT! I don't want to see so much as a Republican dog-catcher.

Wow, you really don't need any type of intellegence to become a politician, eh? So glad I am not an American, ATM!

Editted to add, Sorry, don't mean to bash the US. But there really are some extremely backwards laws coming out of there lately! I am very against abortion as well, but this is just downright cruel. And it's not even abortion when the baby is already dead! It's simply early delivery of a dead fetus! Geez, what's next, make it illegal to take someone who is brain dead off life support?

A3437 I personally believe we need an average american in office. Not one that has had politics bread into them or lived with a silver spoon in their mouths! I'm talking about the mother or father that has had to support their famlies on the minimum wage.

;-) We do. - at least this part: "Not one that has had politics bread into them or lived with a silver spoon in their mouth!"

What really gets me about England's comments, is that the cow and pig are most often on the farm to be butchered.

I would often like to just say to these outspoken legislators "stfu... really just shut-up."

Yes, "they can sort it out in court" because every woman should have the experience of defending a very personal and heartbreaking medical procedure in a public courtroom before a judge and jury of her peers while reporters broadcast it all over the news.

Not to mention the sheer court costs incurred!!! I thought the Republicans were touting themselves as the fiscally responsible ones?

I lived in the state of Georgia for 3 years. There is a huge economic gap and educational gap in that state. I wouldn't be surprised despite the outrage over what this idiot said that next election cycle he gets voted right back into office.

[deleted account]

--Krista, what you wrote is almost exactly what we responded with--if he doesn't understand a law, he shouldn't get up an make speeches supporting it (He didn't propose it, he just supported it and played a major part in getting it passed--and yes, it did pass, I think it was something like 102-65).

Yes, "they can sort it out in court" because every woman should have the experience of defending a very personal and heartbreaking medical procedure in a public courtroom before a judge and jury of her peers while reporters broadcast it all over the news. That's not invasive at all.

My friend is contacting a reporter. She actually lives in GA, I don't, but it was so sickening that I decided to write anyway....making sure it doesn't spread and all. Even if you are not in GA, you should write if you are in the US.

Maybe he should have talked with a lawyer before making such ignorant and fucked up statements! What a duffus... Some people, I don't know how they even get to where they are in life.

[deleted account]

"So we took the time to write pointed letters to make our arguments, and we highlighted the part of the bill that could be used to force women to carry dead fetuses. His response? "Well, I'm not a lawyer, they can sort that out in the courtrooms." "

Wow, I literally feel sick!

[deleted account]

Want to hear something sickening.

I have a friend who wrote him a very vulgar note--she just totally went off on him. She told me herself that she didn't say anything productive, she just wanted him to know what she thought of him, and she would write a sensible argument later. He actually took the time to respond to her saying "I didn't actually say women are farm animals, I was just talking about equality of all life. You should listen to the whole speech." He also went on to say that there was nothing in the bill that forced a woman to carry a dead fetus.

SO, We did listen to the whole speech, and he said that his experience watching a cow and a pig deliver a stillborn was proof to him that, even though it might hurt, a woman could do it too.

So we took the time to write pointed letters to make our arguments, and we highlighted the part of the bill that could be used to force women to carry dead fetuses. His response? "Well, I'm not a lawyer, they can sort that out in the courtrooms."

Vote this waste of skin out!! Like MeMe, I had to live with dead fetus inside.....ya know what happens?? It starts to decay. Isn't that a pleasant thought?? Ya know what a rotting decaying fetus emit?? Gas and toxins. It can be life threatening, painful or at the very least cause other health issues. It is men like this that I wish we could impregnate.

I missed this earlier.

Anyways, this is terrible! What the hell is happening in our country? If a fetus is dead you cant abort it. And if it was "healthy" to continue carrying a dead fetus then D&Cs wouldn't exist! I dont live in Georgia so I cant vote out this scumbag but I hope those who can will!

First of all I don't really understand why abortion is even an issue in the white house. I mean it is a very private family matter and it should be up to the family to decide if an abortion is what's best for ther situation. Stop wasteing my hard earned dollars on bullshit like this. I personally believe we need an average american in office. Not one that has had politics bread into them or lived with a silver spoon in their mouths! I'm talking about the mother or father that has had to support their famlies on the minimum wage. How is it that "WE" have to pay for these idiots to destroy our country! I say stand up "average americans" and we take our country back. There is an option of "other" on the ballot...think about it! Who says we have to vote for those jackasses that say stupid shit like that!

"So glad I am not an American, ATM!" It's laws like these, that make me wish I could say that same. I am so incredibly dissapointed in my country. I just hope that other people realize that not all Americans believe in these laws in the least. I would dare say hardly any, but unfortunately, I have met a few repubs that actually think they are good ideas. :(

You can have what happened to me for 6 months after I miscarried and not all of the fetus was gone.

I hemorrhaged for 6 months straight. Doctors didn't believe me until I landed in emergency and the nurses were able to witness it first hand.... I could've died. I was lucky they got it in time (if you can call 6 months in time) and gave me an emergency D&C.

When there is non-life inside you but still connected to your uterus. Your body believes that there is still life, so it rushes all the blood to it to feed it. Then when your body realizes it is a foreign matter it expels all of that blood. Your body continues to do this until it is cleaned out. It is very scary.

I couldn't go anywhere. It was so bad for me that I would be standing there and all of a sudden I would feel a gush, next thing you know my pants were soaked and the floor had a puddle fo blood. No pad was goind to help, that's for sure. I wish I would've pushed the doctors more. I was just in so much shock that I had lost my baby in the first place....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! This is cruel. Unbelievably cruel. You would be better off having a dead baby in your uterus in Saudi Arabia than in good ol' Georgia USA if this law passes. This England guy is a moron. But anyone who supports this law should have their designation as a human taken away.

Is it not dangerous for a woman to carry a dead baby. Please correct me if im wrong (and i don't mean to offend or upset anyone) but i was always led to believe that if a baby was dead it started to break down and if not cleared could lead to infection etc. i know when miscarried that was the reason i was given for a d&c which i guess would be the same as having aborted. That on top f tne emotional amd mental fallout is enough for any woman. What i would give to tie these men down and make them walk even a day in a womens shoes, b...tards ,bigots and pigs the bloody lot.

Jesus H. Christ on a hopped-up pogo stick. Seriously? How can that even be HEALTHY to carry a dead fetus inside of you for an extended period of time?

I swear, if ANY of you vote Republican, I am revoking your woman card. This is ridiculous!!!

What a duffus!

I am anti-abortion but this is just WRONG! I could not imagine any woman having to carry a lifeless fetus within her.

Absurd - to say the least!

I think he is a pig for stating such crap. A chicken for baulking all this shit. A cow for being so stupid! BARF - what a loser...

How the hell can a woman be compared to farm animals?? We are human beings with much more feelings than any farm animal.
