Ghosts and beliefs

I know I may be asking for it but here goes because I am really curious. how does someone who does not believe in spirituality or is an Atheist reconcile thier beliefs with the supernatural and ghosts? I other words if you don't believe in God or in any type of higher power and that when you die you turn to dust and thats it. How come then are there some who still believe in ghosts and the super natural world. And in the same thought how come does some one who is a believer and is spiritual not believe in Ghosts and the supernatural. Why it is we are so logical and clear headed in our everyday lives but the minute people discuss any topic regarding the supernatural world all logic flys out of the window and every kind of bigoted and hypocritical comment comes out. Whether its about Zombies, Witches or Dracula everyone freaks out. Start a topic on Witch craft and what the fire works. Try it, its almost as though they think you are trying to convert them to the dark side (Starting to sound like Starwars here) .
Now lets get started?

You dont have to be religious to believe in energy. Energy doesn't die. Believing in the possibility of ghosts (or energy) isn't the same as believing in "angels and demons"

I don't think "ghosts" and "angels" are the same thing, and religion and spirits are not connected, although some people may connect them in their mind, because it's what they believe. I like Jackie-Rae's answer. Although I don't really believe in ghosts. And I certainly don't feel like when someone dies that they are "with us" and "watching us" - how fuckin' creepy is that? Oh yay - I'm dead and now I get to watch my nephew taking a shit and jerking off! WOO HOO! NOT! Or do those who believe that think that their families spirits only watch them when they want them to? Like, come watch me at my recital dead Grandma. I don't know - it all seems fucked up to me.

You mean like psychics and faith healers and stuff? If so, I think that's a bunch of hogwash, to be honest.

Do you think that someone may have certain abilities and others a different type and why would these be wrong or not so depending on your outlook.

Well, I don't believe in God, and I don't believe in the afterlife, therefore I don't believe that ghosts exist. I think it may be possible that energy is left around after someone passes away, but to me that's not the same thing as a spirit of ghost. When I think of spirit of ghost, I think of something intelligent that manipulates it's environment or people in it. I don't believe in ghosts or spirits, because I think once you die, that's all she wrote as far as your consciousness goes...

The unknown is scary for many, but also when you grow up being told this is not real, thats crazy to think....ect
After a while you believe it and it takes a lot (if it ever happens) for them to believe other wise.

It is the connection made way back when. The Church/Rome was attempting to gain control over the people. They wanted to be in control of ALL aspects of the lives of the population .... You HAD to attend church. They did all your thinking and told you exactly what to do. You went to hell if you even had sex without their approval (marriage) - you needed their permission to die (last rights) your baby would burn if you didn't get the lad into the church first thing .... well, they could not control this. The culture of the time didn't have great fear, death was a part of life. It was in the natural order of things. Spirit, ghosts .... Uncle so and so coming back with this message or that. The chruch could not allow this, so all of it was turned into anit God/evil/work of the Devil .... to be shunned, frightened of, avoided at all costs ....
It frightenes folks, so it is easier to not see not believe.

I have a mixed opinion about the supernatural. I do believe that my loved ones who passed on are around me watching over me. I strongly believe in God and believe that we all go to heaven! Just got not much to say yet...LOL

Simple, I don't. Believe in the supernatural that is. At least not in the same sense someone who is religious believes in a higher power.

Sure, I think it's fun to believe in the small possibility of those things 'existing'. Mostly, because I'm a sci-fi geek and love to be scared and creeped out by the 'unknown'. I especially have an irrational fear of zombies. Why? Because the 'idea' of zombies creep me out! I love watching zombie flicks because for me, it's fun to be afraid of something like an apocolyptic zombie takeover. Wheeee! I have lots of zombie nightmares too and I actually enjoy them. Is that weird?

So for me part of that enjoyment includes opening myself up to the small possibility of zombie invasion. lol

Ghosts for me are similar. I don't actually believe in them but I open myself up to the small possibility of them being real for my own amusement.

Meah, don't believe in vampires. Still like vampire books and movies. Although my true passion is zombies.

Witchcraft is real... in a sense. Do I believe in hocus pocus, mumbo jumbo... not really. But I do believe the world is made up of energy and that energy is all intermingled... so is it possible people have some influence over that energy? It's possible.

mmmmm love the documentary "What the Bleep do We Know?" If Laura and her followers haven't seen it yet... WATCH IT! It could be the Bible of your religion. ;)

Because people fear the unknown. Religious or not. Sorry tired. Debate later but had to say that.
