$20 is not a lot of money, it does not go very far and is certainly not worth compromising personal values over.

I wonder how he would have reacted if he was offered:
$100,000 and if there had been no video camera around, and esp if he had asked the man when his family wasn't looking on

Shit will happen in this world people. There are two types of wills -- Our will and the Lord's will. Our will is choosing right from wrong, choosing what we want in our life, where we are going, careers, family, etc. Taking the steps to get there. I cant say Lord give me a million dollars. No - I ask him to give me knowledge, wisdom, energy, motivation, courage, strength to get through every step I need to take to earn a million dollars.
Then there is God's will. What his ultimate plan is. After we've done all we could to ensure that million dollars, the other part, is God's will for us to get it. When things dont work out the way we want them too - there is a design we are still meant to live, and it usually leads to something better. I can attest to plenty of things in my life. What doesnt break you, makes you stronger.

BUT this is my belief - and im not sure how to really explain it further. Its like the Footprints - we walk together with the Lord, and when he needs to do his work, he carries us through it.

I only watched 2 minutes of it. The guy making the video is a jerk and those homeless people are awesome. It may be JUST a word to some people, but to them.... and many others... it signifies a LOT more and I don't fault them one bit for holding firm to their beliefs.

it still doesnt matter, crossing the word out is just as much as denying God - at least that is how i felt about how they felt, and Id feel the same way.
The Lord provides - period. God has good and better for all of us, if we just ask. God will send people that will give this family money, without conditions; plain and simple. So, to deny the $20 to cross of God from their sign - doesn't make the world stop spinning.

In my belief, if I had the choice to die, or to do something that would ruin my soul forever - I'd choose my soul, God, and death - over anything on this earth - money, food, wealth, etc.
Having faith in the Lord is much more than a $20 bill - and for this guy to do it in this way - in my faith - weather its 20 dollars or a million - I wouldn't cross the word God off of it either. "thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God".

Don't read into this, btw - just how i feel about it.

I'm really not a big fan of religion or panhandlers but what he did was rather mean-spirited. I know where he's coming from, but rather than force the guy to stand around considering a potential $20.. I would be the ass that called the police to make them move on. Panhandling is illegal in many cities, after all, regardless of the words chosen for the cardboard. Just my two pennies.

Anyone think of how many people have seen this, sought that family out and gave them money?

Just for the whole "God provides" aspect of it. Maybe it was his plan for the asshat to tempt them this way - only for it to be aired, have others come who are sympathetic to find them and give willingly, with no strings.

See if I were in need of money for my kid I would most certainly say F U and I would burn that damn word off in a split second.Religion and soul be damned!!And yes I prob would do some things to feed and clothe my kid that tight wad pansies would be to scared to do.But that shows how much I love my kid and how little I think of your imaginary friend =)

see that is what I don't get about the whole GOD thing...If he loves his flock as much as he says then why does he give ultimatums and threaten and just become an all out ass to the people !@#$ enough to believe in him????

Bottom line - the Lord says he will provide all that we need -- WE are to tend to our souls. Period. So, by denying the $20 from this idiot is not stupid - for those of us who are believers. I dont care if its "just" a word people -- like i said, the Lord will bring others to this family that will give without conditions.

and the removal of the word God was symbolic, they CLEARLY felt (and he did nothing to disagree with them) that removing the word would symbolize turning their back on their faith.

seriously dana, how can you NOT think he was being an ass? sure i think it's ridiculous that someone wouldn't give up the word god on their sign for some cash they need, but come on!!! he's holding money over peoples heads that need it, putting stipulations on handing it over to them. can't he just hand it over and be done with it, instead of being an ass?

he was showing that because they believe in an imaginary man they would rather freeze to death before crossing that one word out.Money for a word.sons life for a WORD!!!!Think people.

[deleted account]

But, Veronica -- he didn't tell them they couldn't believe in God or have faith. He just asked them to exclude the God aspect of them BEGGING for money.

[deleted account]

Laura, I don't believe that he has "zero respect for the fact that other people DO believe". I just think he was trying to prove a point, which I happen to agree with. "God" gave you free will, so wouldn't your free will and common sense advise you to cross out the word God and take the damn money? Seriously. Somone is broke enough to be living in a motor home in a parking lot and BEGGING for money. He wasn't asking them to worship Satan -- he wanted them to scratch out the God in God Bless.

Am I missing something?

[deleted account]

He wasn't asking them to give up God, or compromise their beliefs. All he did was ask them to take a 3 letter word off their sign. They ARE stupid. I believe she even said she wouldn't take the word "GOD" off their sign for a million dollars. Gimme a break.

This is hard, cause I do kinda agree with him. But yeah, he's a dick.

If you don't believe in God, then it IS stupid to turn down money when you are begging for it for the sake of 3 letters.

BUT...to have zero respect for the fact that other people DO believe it and take it very seriously is pretty douchey.

how is withholding money to someone that needs it NOT being an asshole. why not give him the money and then give the lecture about how much god sucks if that's his thing? he's an ass.

You're right - he is most certainly entitled to his opinion that religion is stupid. I just don't see what the point was. Why go up to a homeless person and ask them to deny what they have in their heart just for some money? To prove what? That they will sell out? That they will stand firm in their belief? Why does it matter to him?

He said blind faith is stupid, he cant understand how people can believe in Gods will, and not free will, nor can I since God gave us free will :0)

Maybe he should of pointed out God only helps those who help themselves. He even says at the end if these people cant help themselves then who can help them??

Rewatch this video with open eyes, and you will see he's opinions and points are just as important as the families. And btw hes welcome to think religion is stupid, he actually has a right to believe that just as others have the right to believe in God, neither is wrong, neither is right, they are just two different ways to live.

That's not what he was trying to prove at all Amanda - his point was to show why religion is stupid.

What a great lady! But I also dont think hes an asshole, hes realistic. Being honest, realistic and blunt does not make you a bad person, or an asshole. He had a point to make and he did, just as they made their point very clear as well!

All he was trying to say was God doesnt decide your life, you do! He wasnt saying faith was bad, but blind faith is. That you cant sit around waiting for God to change things for you, that only you can do this.

@Shannen - questioning God's existence because of poverty makes no sense to me. The world is run by mankind - not God. We aren't a bunch of marionettes with God holding our strings.

He is an ass and clearly does not understand having convictions.
As for them, good for them! Others have felt belief in God was worth dying for, so really, $20.00 is not much to give up!
