I feel so overhelmed and guilty of everything!

I'm a working mom of a 11 mon baby boy. For a while now I've been feeling some kind of depression. I've been waking up late for work every single day because i don't like my job anymore and i dont do the house chores that often anymore. Only the most important things for my baby. As for my work, I never liked to miss work only if i really had to, but always felt guilty about it eventhough i had a good excuse.

Recently, we had inventory at work which has always been mandatory. It so happened that my baby got a fever. Friday, i was able to go to work, but i felt so guilty leaving my baby sick without knowing what was wrong with him. So i called in the next day that i wasn't going to be able to go in.

Should i feel guilty for not going to work to stay to care for my child?

Agree, go see your doctor. You shouldn't feel guilty, your baby is your first priority. Hopefully work is understanding of that.

I suffer from depression too. So I know how you feel! It's not a good feeling at all.

You need to take care of you baby when sick. Dont feel bad for that. I agree with the other posts, you should go see your doctor about your depression.

Absolutely not, if your baby is sick, he needs you. You shouldn't feel guilty, and I am sure they will understand.

On the other issues, it may be worth you going to see a doctor or counsellor, it does sound like you are suffering some depression or even just burn out.

No way! Always family before work I say and if they are a good employer they will say the same thing too.

You poor thing. Perhaps seeking advice from your doctor would benefit your down feelings. They could point you in the right direction.

Good luck and go kiss and hug that gorgeous baby of yours! ;)

Norma, do you get sick days? If the guilt is going to eat you up, can you use up a sick day?

Your kids should always come first and if your boss can't understand that than maybe that job is not right for you.

Norma, you and your family should always come first. You're doing the right thing. Get the little munchkin checked out and try not to be so hard on yourself.

Thanks so much for your support. I just came back from work. The manager brought it to my attention that is was a very important day and that i couldn't be missing that day. But i told me that it wasn't like i asked my baby to get sick. I was kind of expecting for him to tell me something, which he was only doing his job as a manager. So i kind of took it the wrong way. So I just quit my job just now.

In a way they don't understand what i had to go through in trying to have a baby. I had gone to several infertility doctors and they told me that i needed to get inseminated. So that also took a toll on my relationship with my husband.I gave up. And just unexpectedly i got pregnant. Without being on any treatment. God gave me my little Miracle. So there at work they think that m husband could have helped in taking care of the baby. And yes he was helping but as a mother i felt i had to be there for my baby.

Don't ever feel guilty for taking care of your child! Be proud of that! It's a touch decision to make, and you made it, good for you!

I second Jodi though...why not talk to someone, see a doctor. Depression's pretty treatable these days and can make a HUGE difference in your daily life! Good luck!
