She's a kid. Seriously, nothing wrong with running around the house or the yard half naked. Honestly, I think it's ridiculous to be freaking out over kids being in the yard in their underwear. No, I wouldn't post it to the internet for the world to see, but really?

For me, the issue isn't really about her running around in her underwear - it's not something I do with my toddler other than in our fenced in backyard, but that's just me. If we're walking around on the sidewalk through the neighborhood, she is clothed. Even on those hot, muggy, summer days when it gets over a 100 F, I don't know that the addition of a tank top makes all that much of a difference, but to each their own on that one.

It's the whole package - your small child is traipsing around more than half-naked, cuddling a dead rodent, and rather than dealing with it, you are recording it and then posting it on a site for the entire fucking world to gawk at.

Im a little confused on all the mothers that think a child has to be half naked for a perv to enjoy them. Give me a break, pervs enjoy watching your fully dressed child walking down the street just as much as one in a diaper. I guess it kinda goes with the living in fear topic.

Ah, Toni, you don't live in a hot climate, I can tell. My daughter runs around half naked half the summer.....

[deleted account]

I have to say that little girl IS adorable....and that cuddling a dead squirrel is something I would have done as a child....as long as it's guts weren't falling out. This one looked intact and fresh (hehe). But now as an adult, if I saw my littles playing with a dead animal my initial reaction would be to deafen them with my shrieking "No, no, no, oh God no, put it doooooooowwwwwnnnnnnn!!!!!!'. And proceed to bathe them with the water hose as to not bring dead animal germs into our house. Then, we'd have a squirrel funeral. : )
A few days ago Ava (4) and I found 3 dead birds on the back porch, gifts from Sparkle the cat no doubt. Days like this are when your happy you're a nazi helicopter mommy. I have no doubt that she would have picked them up and brought them to me had I not been there. Which reminds me...I need to charge the camcorder. ; )

WTF??? Why is this child playing with a dead squirrel? Doesn't she have normal non-disease carrying toys that are fake (never having been alive?) I am shocked that DSS didn't say anything about this video. This is insane and very sad for this child.

[deleted account]

Just to clarify I don't think a child running round the front garden in her undies is inappropriate because of paedophiles - I just think we should maintain appropriate levels of dress in public, I mean I went to a country house a few weeks back and there was a lady walking round in hotpants and a bikini top - she looked inappropriately dressed to me (and it wasn't really hot enough for those clothes) but I realise that people have their reasons :-)

I mean i wouldnt let my child do that. But in another persons case im not gonna tell them theyre horrible for what they did..I just think it went on too long. the flimsiness of the body and the nodding of the head kinda grossed me out.

Why is the fact that she is in her underwear an issue???? My kids go around front and back in their underwear...especially in summer.....but the more I watch the video the more I can kind of see that the parents were stunned and what better thing to show her first serious boyfriend when she is older....

I didn't listen to the video (I have no speakers, and can't find my headphones) but I can't believe that they let her play with a dead squirrel for over 2 minutes. Its just sick. Its a dead animal and she's rubbing it on her face and cuddling it, it could have parasites or deseases. Oh my goodness its just so gross, I am sickened.

Haha I just tried to play the video for my husband. It started and within 5 seconds he says, "He lets her play with the squirrel for over 2 minutes?" I say, yes. He says, "Oh fuck, that is disgusting." Throws down the headphones and walks away.

The little girl being in her underwear is definitely not the issue. The fact she is holding a dead animal and moving it around the way she is, is just wrong *gag*. The mother looks embarrassed and not that I purposely looked in that area, but i'm pretty sure she isn't wearing a bra lol.

[deleted account]

And Jodi A that's pretty much what my hubby said too. And I agree with you on the underwear issue too. Must be an Aussie thing- my kids get about in the knickers in the summer too, only in the backyard though but that's coz we have no fence in the front yard. And they have loads sunscreen on. And no I'm not worried about paedophiles either as they wouldnt get that close to my kids AND as someone else said- they are observing kids whether they are fully clothed or not.

My middle sister used to mess with dead animals she didn't love on them like a doll tho! I would have been like hunny the squirrel is dead we need to have a little funeral for it ok! Yea it has germs but im sure everyone touched something dirty or gross when they were little! Now him posting this on you tube was TOTALLY uncalled for! And the underwear thing my son runs around naked in the house in the summer my daughter wears her diaper outside and thats it i don't see the big deal now when this girl is 16 and still half naked running around outside then i will think something is wrong!

[deleted account]

I can see yr point Cathy, obvoiusly better to calmly take the animal and maybe have an age-appropriate chat about it. But they do seem more amused by it than anything- not sure if the adult female is mom or not BUT she is laughing and that's not the right message to send either.

The mom.. "fuck!" i'm laughing so hard. I thought the parents handled it wonderfully. OMG i can't wait to show this to my husband.

"look, it's nodding it's head"

ok, i guess i should read everyone's responses now to see how well this can be blown out of proportion.

I'm with Jodi on the underwear issue. Must be an Aussie thing. But when it's 40C, the less clothes the better. The only problem I see with it is a) don't post it on the Internet and b) consider the lack of protection from the sun. You can fry in 15mins some days here.

This girl reminds me of my uni prof's 3 yo girl. When she was on campus she'd carry around this evil looking, plastic, hallowe,en rat. My prof told us it was her favourite toy and she slept with it every night.

Although it wasn't a real dead rat.... ick.

I do find it kind of odd the initial reaction wasn't: "Ok hunny. Put it down! Let's give him a proper burial. Now come inside and wash your hands!"

Okay so I played with dead things when I was a kid, but not like that and not that young. I knew they were germy. I took precautions and I didn't cuddle them, usually just waited to see how long they took to rot away, or I dissected them to see if I could determine the cause of death.
This is pretty harmless, I don't think her dad should have put it on youtube and I don't think he should have allowed her to cuddle it for as long as she did. (how long before the two minute vid was she holding this before dad got the camera)
And I do believe it was killed recently by the dog as they said, but I still think that a dead squirrel should just be buried not cuddled. It's about respect. And the mom even said the word "Respect" as she came out of the house the second time after putting the dog inside.
He made an ass of himself.
Oh as for underwear in the front yard, at that age? No problem.
It's legal to go topless in Ontario. That's not to say I would let my daughters do it.

I don't think it's wrong for kids to run around their house or even to a certain degree the back garden but I feel in the front garden it is not appropriate - but that is just me I suppose.

My problem is that they thought it was ok to post a video of a young girl in her underware on the internet!!!! Do they know that their are pedifiles out there and they just provided them with entertainment? Please why even waste my time....

[deleted account]

Oh they said the dog killed it. yea i guess other information that is unknown is what bothers me most. And if it were my daughter i would want her touching it at all but i mean im not freakin out just cuz another fam is more relaxed about it. And yea her touching her face is bad but i figure kids are really not careful when it comes to being cleanly

If it was my son or neice or nephew it would be a big deal to me =o And yeah i wouldnt call her parents terrible either. Even though her dad said she needed to take a shower she still touched her face and everything. If something gets in her eye or mouth then a shower wouldnt get rid of it.
It also took him more than 2 minutes to say she cant play with it anymore. I keep thinking that the squirrel didnt look like roadkill soooo... what caused it to die? old age? or disease?
About the underwear thing its whatever. I was slapped in my feet or legs if i was caught running around my house in underwear when i was younger. so i believe i shouldnt let my children do that but when i see other children do it cause of the heat running around the house i really dont care.

[deleted account]

That little girl is so cute!! i really dont see the big deal oh well guess thats just me. Would i let my daughter play with a dead animal . . . no but im not gonna start calling her parents terrible! they just thought it was funny and cute and wanted to get it on camera to show her family. As far as her being in her underwear. . . . uh get over it. My baby is in her pamper most of the time are we also gonna start seeing images of Pedophiles??? She was in the front of the house close to the door not even all over the yard. Again i dont see the big deal and the dad said after that she wasnt gonna be playing with it anymore and that she needed to go and take a shower.

[deleted account]

Jodi you are right it doesn't get overly hot in the UK but I do still stand by the fact it is not appropriate for a child to run around in their underwear, wear shorts and t-shirt if it is that hot.

Ok. First, EWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! No Freaking way! The damn thing is fucking dead. I wouldn't be standing there laughing and encouraging her playing with it! That is disgusting!

Second, my child would not be outside with nothing but her panties on. Yeah it gets pretty hot out side but you know what, that's what they make shorts and short sleeve shirts for!

[deleted account]

I was cut off watching that video first time, i feel now.The little girl was left way to long holding the animal, the mother walked off twice.I agree Azza its disgusting she was touching her face etc at the same time.
I would run with fright to my parents, when my sister found dead or injured animals and they would take the animal off her(usually dad lol). You can be compassionate towards good natured children but you also have to be wise and be safe.Which means taking the animal not having the child holding it for ages.ewww

no one can deny how innocent and adorable the girl, but really I was shocked to see her cuddling the dead animal that way and the same time touching her face and her mouth. I think If I were her mother I would stop it immediately not standing there watching the father video taping the action, it isn't worth it . It is so selfish of the parents to endanger their child's life this way

[deleted account]

@ Jodi my 6 year old thought it was soo gross. She even said to me" why is the girl not taken the dead thing off her".

She takes after me so, not her aunty. My two year old said awww that girl looks like me&shes looking at me mommy, she starts waving at the computer screen...... lol..didn't care for the animal at all.:-)

I just showed it to hubby...."Why the fuck is someone not taking that dead thing off that kid?"

[deleted account]

I would just tell my child to put the dead animal down and then make sure that he was bathed to make sure he didn't catch anything, but I do have to say that he would be fully clothed and would NEVER run around outside the house in his underwear - that is so inappropriate!

[deleted account]

I wouldn't WANT to give an over the top reaction like shrieking "No, no, no, oh God no, put it doooooooowwwwwnnnnnnn!!!!!!" but I think it would possibly be involuntary bc of the thought of blood and diseases, especially if it wasn't freshly dead it would be engulfed in bacteria. If I knew that my dog had just killed it and one of the kids picked it up I wouldn't flip, I would be able to gently say lets put it down. But in a surprise moment, I would likely do the no, no, nooooooo thing. ; )

[deleted account]

My parents would tell my sister, she was a wonderful girl for caring so much for all animals. They told her not many children would do what she did.

They also told her the importance of being safe.As animals in the wild can make you sick.I think they handled it very well.As a mother now i would handle it the very same.

I wouldnt whip it off the child but i would gently remove the animal while being very loving and encourageing towards my childs good nature.

If you understand me.

The mother in this video clearly was lost for words and what to do as she was taken back by her childs reaction to the dead animal.Which if i was that mother would be also.

I couldn't even finish it, absolutely disgusting! What kind of parent would allow that??!! It is not funny, it is not cute or cool. It is bad parenting. That squirrel is loaded with bacteria and god knows what else.

This child didnt need to go looking for the animal, its clearly stated in the video the dog killed it. When my dog kills them she leaves them right on my back porch crying for me to "fix" them. So I am sure the dog brought it home, as for the child picking it up, eww but she was so sweet. Petting it, holding it like it was her toy. Its not like the animal dropped dead from an illiness, the dog prob broke its back (like my dog does). Though I wouldnt be taking the time to flim this if my child did it, I sure wouldnt be making a huge deal also. I would politely tell my kid that we dont touch dead animals with our bare hands and ask them to put it down.

[deleted account]

She reminds me of my sister lol. When we were young.

She would pick up injured or dead rabbits etc.She had a Prue heart of gold.

Although once our parents found out the had to take over. She once nursed a rabbit to health. She found half dead on the road. With our parents help. You have to be careful, animals carrying all kinds of diseases.

I find the little girls, spirit endearing. She has no clue the animal is dead...aww so innocent.:-(

Although the mommy in me would have to say "hunny put it down"lol.

[deleted account]

I was wondering that...how she found it, bc I was imagining for a kid to pick up something like this they *must* have been alone bc a parent wouldn't allow it, right? But since they were so happy to video tape it and let her cuddle with it for so long, I'm guessing they saw the whole thing and didn't mind lol. If she WAS left alone outside at that age and that close to the street THAT is the real problem here, not the dead squirrel!

WTF?

Okay, I understand her fascination with it...what I don't understand is how she was left alone long enough to pick it up. I mean, I get her seeing it, and wanting to touch it...but there is no way in hell I would let my child pick it up. Of course, I also don't typically walk her around the neighborhood in just her underpants, either, and I sure as shit wouldn't post a video of it on You Tube.

[deleted account]

I just showed this to my hubby to see if maybe it's a dad thing and I think HE just vomitted in his mouth a little.
